Allergic to an Amino Acid(s)!

When I began training just over a year ago I was obviously told of the importance of protein so I naturally went out and bought Whey powder. After a month of using whey I began to notice that my nose was blocked up with all sorts of crap! I tried changing the brand to see if it would die down but it was to no avail and then I took it to my doctor who I have to say was extremely against bodybuilding and the culture that goes with it, anyway he explained to me that its a reaction to an Amino Acid from the Whey and the only way to stop it is to stop using Whey…Impossible!

I’ve been thinking recently that if I was allergic to an amino acid surely by eating meat alone I would have had this problem!? It could be the amount of protein I’m consuming but either way its really quite annoying and something I’d love to get rid of…

I havent stopped using it and to this day my nose is always blocked up with crap!
I was curios to see if anyone has had this problem before and if thy have could they let me know how they got rid of it!

Thank Ya

You’re probably just sensitive to dairy, or more specifically dairy protein.

Try eliminating dairy from your diet for a couple of weeks and see how you feel.

Other than Whey I havent eaten dairy in a year…the doc says its a reaction to a protein which makes sense cause I’m pretty sure thats what all allergies are

could be glutamine. A lot of people have intolerance to glutamine (aka when you see packages labled gluten free).

whey has a lot of glutamine in it. could be that.

if it was because of the dairy in it, he would be lactose intolerant and all dairy would do it to him not just whey

Lactose intolerance is different than being allergic to dairy proteins.

Whey could be considered dairy since it will contain the same dairy proteins…so, HK might be correct - I’m almost positive that is what he is indicating when he says sensitive to dairy.

You could try eliminating the whey (you don’t REALLY “need” it) until your symptoms subside, and then add in some dairy products to see if you experience the same symptoms.

It could possibly be the gluten. What are your reactions to rice?

Wrong.

Many are people, including myself, are allergic to dairy proteins. Symptoms include sinus congestion.

Lactose intolerance is something all together different.

True.

BTW Glutamine (an amino acid) isnt the same as gluten (a protein), however I’m not sure if digestion of gluten produces glutamine; more research required!

I can eat rice without any problems, infact along with sweet potatoes its one of the only sources of carbs that doesn’t make me feel bloated for days after!

And in relation to the second quote, the same must surely apply to dairy as the meat! if I was allergic to it without knowing, why in the past didn’t I ever get these symptoms?
What have you done about the whole sinus congestion thing? have you switched from whey to casein?
Cheers for the help

You can most definitely be allergic to dairy and not meat.

You probably just got to the point where you’ve been consuming a large amount of dairy proteins for a long enough time.

The only solution is to back off dairy for a while and then slowly reintroduce it.

Haha gluten-free products are made for those with gluten allergies, not glutamine.
