All The Liberty We Brought To Iraq

Hmmm…it seem some Iraqi’s now have to worry about which salad they can eat thanks to US interventionism.

Considering Iraq was pretty much a secular country before the illegal invasion of this land how is this change supposed to be beneficial for Iraqis?

This video is just another mindless attempt to demean US efforts in Iraq. Supplying jobs, electricity, clean water, schools and safety are key elements in bringing violence to a minimum. Unfortunatley the speed at which we can bring these things to the people of Iraq is hindered by this same violence. Although there is room for vast improvement our accomplishments are never publicized.

Ive met and known many Iraqis and our presence is appreciated, not by all but, by many. Its the latter that we need to reach out to and we will in good time. Its too bad that so many Americans are unable or unwilling to wear the uniform. Maybe then they could see things in a different light.

Interesting, I didn’t know Iraqi’s ate so well (any salad at all!) under Uncle Saddam!

It was a Garden of Eden.

Iraq is in the middle of the fertile fucking crescent!

They probably were among the first civilizations to develop agriculture.

I’m sure salad existed well before Islam in the ME. I don’t think Saddam gave a rat’s ass what they ate.

Really? Hmm, I’ve been there and they can’t seem to grow shit! Does that have anything to do with history or just our “American Imperialism”?

Well I guess that makes you an expert on the history of Mesopotamian agriculture. Please, tell us what we’re missing, excellent one.

Do you actually think you helped liberate this country? I await your reply with baited breath.

This is a attempt, in predictable Liberal fashion, to redirect blame from the extremists to the US. Are you saying that it’s because of us they can’t eat salad?

The EXTREMISTS are trying to MINIMIZE peoples freedom, which these people clearly have because they don’t let extremeists tell them what to eat.

Yeah…I have not gone through with it. I’m having to get pain meds maybe 6 weeks out of a year, each time I get injured it seems to clear up OK, and I can get along for a few more months until the next stress.

My L5 is already ruptured, but the blown disc pulpus material mainly stays in a ‘happy’ place and does not push on nerves most of the time. But when it moves…I’m down…and definately down.

This is not a liberal v. conservative issue. There is nothing partisan about fucking a country up.

Saddam may have sucked as a leader but it was still an illegal invasion and no amount of partisan-hackery will make this stain go away. The neocons fucked up and dems let them. We all share the blame in this. Iraq was never a threat to us and neither is Iran.

Here’s some more freedom…we’re laying it on thick.

The simple fact is that the US has contributed to the ends we are seeing now. Insurgents and “terrorists” weren’t an issue in Iraq before we invaded and occupied.

True, but the “fertile crescent” now exists more in name than as a correct description of the region.

From the time of the great mesopotamia civilizations, and especially throughout the dam projects in the the 1970s, the green crescent has been diminished by as much as 90%.

A “rocky dust bowl” better describes much of it now.

Ok, I stand corrected. Are the Iraqis still capable of feeding themsleves?

My original point, before it was derailed by detractors, was to point out how much “liberty” we’ve brought to this region. Not to discuss a history of the Iraqi diet.

It is a fascinating topic though.

Jared Diamond has written books about this, I think the most relevant one regarding this topic is called “germs and steel” or something like that.

It is partly about the abundance of super-grasses in this region and the plethora of domesticable animals.

Hence the start of civilization in this area, Mesopotamia, Hitthites, Egyptians and so on.

Guns, Germs & Steel - yes, fascinating.

Btw, I may be wrong, but I believe it was Saddam’s marsh draining and dam projects that created such an ecological catastrophe and destroyed the much of the “fertile” part of the crescent.

Yes, on the one hand people desire modernization which requires roads, electricity, and a lack of flooding but on the other hand they need to figure out a cheaper way to produce food now that the flood plains are dry. Quite the conundrum.
