“Spread your cheeks”, Wow, I haven’t heard that one for ages.

That takes me back to my prison lifting days. It was one of Big Bubba’s favourite teaching points, he’d say it a lot when I was doing my stiff legged deadlifts, then he’d get this strange look in his eyes and then, and then…La la la la la la (gone to my happy place) la la la la…

I’ve heard that. The most enjoyable jobs I’ve had involved graphics and visuals. Also, can remember people’s faces pretty well, but takes a while to remember the name that goes with them.

However, on a lot of exercises, I just close my eyes, makes it easier to concentrate on the sensations.

German, interesting that you check on the different types. Never thought of that.

Oh, and UP, your pix on this thread are definitely . . . distracting.

I know its ok, we are all getting old together Cav…by the way my name is UpScale

Hmm…that is interesting! I think i’d say i’m definitely kinesthetic. I like to be touched and be physically shown where things need to be and how my body should be moving. In fact, when I first started Oly, I explicitly stated to my coach “you can touch me” lol! poor guy. We’re as awkward as cousins in an Alabama barn!

But I also like to envision my lifts, particularly when it comes to Oly. Maybe that’s why strange metaphors like “be the gorilla” and “spread your cheeks” works for me. I guess that means I’m not very auditory. Not surprising since verbal cues like, “heals, HEALS!” and “Juuuump!” is nothing more than jarring to me.

Interesting indeed!

Looking great Up! Those jeans fit like a glove![/quote]

Thats just cause you’ve never been in an Alabama barn.

Lol…good thing you were formal…

Interesting conversation. In so many ways.

Brett: Thanks for sharing that. Yep.

Maschy: For the first few months of training with my coach, he would always say “I’m going to touch you” before he did. Now he just smacks me around. I won’t even mention how awkward it can be getting into and outta gear with his help. I guess men just have to be pretty careful.

Up: Nice face shot. Always interesting to see the face that goes with the ass.

I like the attitude you are bringing to this.

I did walking lunges today. I love them / hate them. Mostly hate.

The lunges arent too bad. Maybe its the momentum of walking lunges and my focus not to stumble, its the split squat i love to hate!!When I think not too bad i grind a littlelower and am reminded why i do so…

Ladies …the belt conversation? Im thinking of trying the tapered one? thoughts??
80#

You have real nice arm position for those front squats. I think you need to work on staying a little tighter. Are you doing much in the way of back squat or mostly front squat?

Belts. I have a full-size one that I gave to Brute (PW section). And I have a beauteous purple tapered one. I just found that a full-size one was too much for me. I couldn’t fit it between my rib cage/hip bones well. I’m a big fan of tapered. But I only put the belt on with squats at more than bodyweight and DL at more than 1.5x BW. I like to do all stabilization myself up to that point. I suppose that’s a personal preference.

Yes on staying tighter. Im doing back squats too. The belt feels good but yea it is hard to not rub my bonz, I get some strange looks with my belt, although I dont get to worked up about it when i see what they are doing(insert eye roll here) Ill have to get on site and see what my options are. Hmm on body weight thing and belt, I wouldnt need it for some time.

Thanks for the reply

I’ve never used a belt myself, and I am by no means anywhere near Snapper squatting status, but I think she’s right in that its a personal preference. I believe some people use belts more for cues, like as a reminder to take a big breath and really brace one’s stomach muscles, or tighten the back, or whatever (i have no idea how to articulate the squat setup, lol).

But again, I’m going to be a hard ass (i don’t know why I feel the need to do this with you, and I apologize in advance, especially since you’re under the careful eye of German) but I really think you shouldn’t burden yourself with belts and things unless you’re somehow feeling that your squat form will be improved by the use of a belt, which to me it won’t - seeing as to how your squat form is really quite good! Wait until things start breaking down a bit before putting on the belt. That’s my .02 at least.

Lots to think about, thank you.

Ya know couldnt we just settle on a little spanking or something?
