You Yanks might have your NBA, but you’re not in the semis of the World Basketball Champs beaten by Yugoslavia 81-78! The NZ team, The Tall Blacks are, and as Coach Tab Baldwin said “Cinderalla wears black, and she ain’t very pretty”. The exploits of the team have the country in raptures, and if ever there was a team performing above expectation this is it, they have never even qualified before and all I can say is go you good things.

If anything, the performance by the Tall Blacks reminds me a lot of the reprinted Atomic Dog this week…thematically anyway.

Basketball has the biggest fag factor of the 4 majors. Football, hockey, baseball, basketball. Off the map? Soccer. serious T-deprived status.
I just couldn’t get over the fact that it looked like the other teams thought they were accomplishing something great by knocking off the United States. It’s defnitely what the US deserved, though, sending an ill-prepared third string “Dream Team”. I do think I had the most fun watching the New Zealand games. I liked their attitude more.
And I was wondering, what, exactly, makes basketball a “fag” sport? I can think of several reasons, but I would like to hear what others think.
Agreed that USA is really thumbing their noses at the world by sending in their 3rd string to the world championships. The fact remains that no one is even close to the USA’s best, though. By the way, I live in Auckland, NZ.

The US are the best because no-one else plays it. I have never watched a full game of BB in my life. I think the longest I lasted was 10 minutes watching an NBA game a couple of years ago-YAWN. Well done to the Tall Blacks though! Always nice to see my kiwi brothers kicking arse.

I am glad that the U.S. lost the games. We need to return to playing team ball. Our NBA players are very selfish and quibble about minutes. If we returned to playing real basketball, we would run off at least another 58 straight wins. Oh, by the way, Chris, I haven’t thought about New Zealand in years. I will be thinking of you when I return to ignoring them.
