Alexus' Adventure in Wonderland

10x1 on those chins is awesome. Sets of 2 now? Good luck packing!

close nadia! so close!

i haven’t been logging all my training lately…

but i’ve basically moved to an upper body then lower body then upper body focus…

doing chins then bench then rows for upper and squats for lower. so i have been doing my (front) squats… one chin-up is hard work but i know i can get it now. i might try a double tomorrow (not going to get to the gym today).

Being a bit of a gear whore, I’m trying to figure this out. Were they jeans? I’ve heard of denim shirts . . .

alexus I’m watching Animal Kingdom right now I’m sure you’ve heard of it…

I’m afraid you might have to get those plates shipped. You could do it by a courier or to be really awkward you can put them on a ship (but it’ll be cheaper), I had to do that but of course I was moving lots of stuff and the distance was further away, of course it takes longer on the seas.

Moving from one to two chins is tough. It’s like getting a deadlift PR and then trying to get two reps with that the next time. Which I why I use bands at the moment. Losing weight helps, mind you.

Woot woot on the chins!!

I also implemented the 10x1 method and in a year was able to get 10x5! So I think that’s a sound method for increasing numbers.

But you gotta go for 2, girlie and then whatever happens after, happens. I mean, you got 10x1 - what are you going to do? perfect your 1 pullup?

Even if the set looks like this:

2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0

Maximum effort bitch - put it in!!

<3!!!

Edit: i just went back and saw that you said you’re doing chins from “tippy toes” - not sure what that means, so take my above caffeine fueled chinup excitement lightly. loL! you’re making great progress in all areas of your lifting! Keep up the great work!! And get home safe my little kiwi!!

have arrived

staying with a friend, which is very cool. finding that i know a lot of people here already lol.

went to the gym today. it is a good gym. there is this cool fingerprint scanner thing for access in case nobody is there during whatever hours i’m allowed (i think different people have different hours by negotiation). lots of squat racks. no mirrors. platform… nobody fought me off… old guys oly bar… felt heavy and stiff, but i guess i’ll get used to it. he said he looked into women’s oly bars but they are like $5,000 (exchange rate here really sucks). i think i’ll be alright there. i’ll have to get stronger to use the bumpers…

exhausted, really. lots of stuff to sort out…

hope to catch up with everyones logs soon, but might be a bit quiet for a couple weeks…

Yay, Sexy Lexy made it safely!

Hey, glad you arrived safely. Sounds like a decent gym - it’s got all you need. Settle in well!

Welcome home!

You seem relieved, good!!

Gym sounds decent, you will adjust to equipment. Does feel so odd at first.

I need Mashy to come give me the shit about chins, i start doing them then they get forgotten.
Keep on them!!

Glad you made it safe. New stuffs sound awesome!

Settle in quickly!

Home sweet home! Settle in and get that sweet ass back in here!

Yo lexy!

I was just wondering if you do any activation exercises for your lats before you do your chin-ups/pull-ups. When I do my chinnies, I use my traps and biceps heaps. My buddy; ‘the pidgeon’, taught me a couple of tricks to activate my lats. Its like learning how to walk all over again.

Did I ever tell you I used to date a kiwi chick. Her name is Melissa, and she was had serious cool factor. I had to dump her due to the “crazies”. She introduced me to my favourite beer; tui.

Hey mama!

Just saw some of your lifts in the O-thread. You’ve improved SO MUCH!!! They look awesome!!

So fluid, so beautiful - damn! Good work

And I like how youre popping your head thru your arms on the push presses - I’ll have to remember to do that! Really good stuff. And the new gym looks amazing. Congrats!

Good for you on the chins. That’s how I started: 10 x 1. Then 10 x 2. Etc. I think I advised Maschy to do that a year or so ago.

Hope you are getting adjusted to the changes in your life.

go the all blacks!!!

exhausted. other people don’t seem to understand how much i need to eat / sleep…
need to find a flat… lots going but much harder to find something with people my age… really want to try and get something in the city, too, if possible.

gym is taking a bit for me to figure… some days i feel like crying that i don’t have my women’s oly bar anymore :frowning: seems that it is accepted for people to deadlift with the oly bar on the platform, too, so i am expected to give way to that… it is frustrating trying to snatch with a fat stiff powerlifting bar in the squat rack… but it seems that i need to focus on angry strength for my oly lifting right now anyway, so might work out okay in the end… green bumpers are flimsy and cracked already… can’t drop anything until i get to 50kg. sometimes feel like crying about it… but i guess really the thing to do is to see it as a challenge to really get stronger.

  • power snatches.

i love diving under for the catch. figure it is time for some serious power snatches trying to get stronger with the pull. and working on my squats, too, of course. 35kg front squat isn’t feeling as hard as it used to… will try 37.5kg for 5x5 next time (first time i’ll have managed that at that weight). i think my legs are getting stronger.

  • explosive trap bar deadlifts. awesomely lowerback friendly.

figuring some stuffs:

  • prowler. is good for my toes (but takes my feet quite some time to recover from). gently does it. hack. splutter. i’ve noticed the strategically placed buckets :frowning:
  • chin ups. the bars are located on top of the (8! gasp!) power racks. the way they are hung means i need a slightly wider than usual grip. the bar is also pretty fat. that is why i’m finding dead hang chins a bit harder than i used to… i’ll adapt.
  • pounds. dumbbells are in pounds (that way they could get smaller weight increases rather than getting ones in kgs). i don’t know what pounds mean though ha! so still feeling out the weights for rows.

heaps of stuff i’m not strong enough to move. tires. rocks. stuff like that… there is a weighted sled, too, which i haven’t tried.

GHR (actual machine). not strong enough. using a stick (they actually have sticks or really metal poles of a variety of weights and thicknesses) bit scared of getting a hammie cramp and / or falling off…

people are training for a comp next month so i’ll go along and see…

the stereo is awesome…

been training during the day (probably emptiest time) but given the deadlifting on the oly platform… seems like that is the way for me to go. otherwise i’ll be tempted to say something and probably get my head smashed in :frowning:

Yes glad NZ won, need it after that tragic oil spill up north.

Ah sorry the gym isn’t working out for you. Maybe once you’ve been there awhile, you might find it would be easier to establish some sort of understanding with others. I still don’t understand how a women’s oly bar would cost 5,000? If they have plates already?? Anyway I won’t harp about it.

You’ll settle in a place soon, have you started work yet?
