In one of the previous threads B. Roberts was explaining the correlation between SHBG and free T.
But does the same rule apply for exogenous testosterone? Can body keep up with a synthetic testosterone in terms of proportional SHBG production?
E.g. if one injects 100mg of testosterone (non-esterified) what percent of this 100mg would be free? Would we still see that approximate ratio where around 2% is free and would this 2% be around 2mg (absolute amount)or considerably less?
The percentage free increases but there
really is no reason to think about it –
the body doesn’t work in terms of dividing
one thing by the other or computing a percentage.
Only thing that counts for anabolism is
free T.
Free T level is not affected by SHBG (or rather,
no proof that it is and no reasonable mechanism
exists) but SHBG level is affected by amount of free T (it decreases as free T increases apparently as a result of androgen-induced downregulation).
