Advice on my Mom Getting Scammed

Without knowing much more about your situation, engaging with her pastor and other faith-connected people is a sensible and mature next step in my opinion. I doubt her faith leader will be on Team Energy Healer. If he is, well, maybe you should toss that guy into the river and see if he floats, like all witches are known to do.

Its hard to see everything when you’re the one drinking from the firehose.

Hey man,

Really sorry to hear you’re going through this. Definitely a crushing situation, but I think you’re on the right track with speaking with your Dad and also the church.

People she trusts gently easing it to her is probably the best way, especially the pastor and he will align with her faith. He might be able to explain to her that simply by visiting your brother and showing him love she is helping his soul/mind heal, even if he won’t ‘recover’ in the sense that she wants.

Obviously every country and state is different, but as a Police Officer in SA I can tell you that pursuing a criminal case against someone like that is almost impossible, especially if the victim (in this case your mother) is uncooperative/unwilling to pursue charges. There’s also the issue of what actual claims this healer is making and whether they fit the elements of the offence you’d be going with.

Also, sometimes getting the police involved (or any outside group without rapport really) can make that person totally double down. At the end of the day if someone is willingly giving their money away because they believe in something there’s not a great deal we can do (here at least)
