I’m going to be using ADVANCED PROTEIN instead of GROW in my diet for weight gain. Any suggestions on what the best things to mix Advanced Protein in, other than milk to make a good weight gain drink?
Good question, Hugh. I don’t do well on milk. It seems like I just gain fat too fast when I add milk to a mass diet, even skim. So to me (and John Berardi has stated something similiar), adding oatmeal to AP or other protein powders makes them near perfect.
Here’s how I do it: Cook old fashioned unflavored oatmeal in the microwave for a couple of minutes. (Don’t use that evil, instant flavored kind.) Throw it in the blender with ice (too cool it down) and then add your Advanced Protein and water. For a real “weight gainer” type of shake, throw in natural peanut butter (natural only, not that regular garbage, ‘Teddie’ being the best tasting brand). I blow up on a couple of these a day.
Some people use dry oatmeal but I like to cook it a little. I suppose you could cook up a bunch of oatmeal at once and store it in the fridge, but I haven’t tried that.
Hope that helps.
Chris- what is it about milk that makes you gain fat? I have heard this before but don’t get it.
Not sure exactly, Jennifer. It’s just an observation I’ve made over the years. These days, I seldom even buy milk for myself. But I’m not anti-milk. It’s just not the best thing for me.
Milk consumption spikes insulin considerably.
What is the texture like when you put oatmeal in it? And, how much oatmeal would you use?
I drink a gallon of skim milk a day, whether dieting or bulking. Anyone else have no problem with milk, or is it just me???
