Adrenal Fatigue Hurdle Out of the Way

Hey T-Nationers, its been a great and very informational journey ever since I bumped into this website in â??08. At that time and very day, a Poliquin article was highlighted and he became one of my favorite authors ever since, alongside Thibadeau. Something that didnâ??t quite strike me until recently was even though they Poliquin had vast knowledge, things must be tweaked for many individuals, his general information released will probably not work optimally for everyone, so I should have expect that the general info he gave out would sometimes not be precise enough to fit me and my individuality. With that, Thibadeau can be more advantageous at times due to his consistent LIVE presence on T-Nation.

Since somewhere around 2011, until early January â??13, my sleep has been an issue. For quite some time, Iâ??d try modifying dosages with Magnesium, Calcium, Zinc, Z-12, carbs, etc. you name it, nothing was really knocking me out to sleep well. But once again, although Poliquin wasnâ??t my VERY OWN PERSONAL coach, his information seem to be good enough for adrenal fatigue. Who knows for how long he has had his adrenal fatigue supplements in his store, but I couldnâ??t FUCKING believe I didnâ??t think about researching his advice on adrenal fatigue earlier! I took his licorice supreme (at morning & afternoon) /Pantethine (at morning, afternoon and evening) and Iâ??ve been knocking out since and have been automatically waking up at around 8hrs of sleep.

About a week ago, Iâ??d also decided to try out his Yin Builder, not sure if it takes a while to kick in, or if my caffeine consumption is blocking its affect, but I didnâ??t modify my caffeine intake when I started taking Pantehtine & Licorice Supreme, so Iâ??m assuming it may take while for the yin builder to kick. However, even though Poliquin advises 2 doses max, for Metagenics (adreset) similar product it recommends 3 doses max per day. Maybe based on my uncommon volume and intensity (frequently working out 2x a day, once in a while working out 3x a day), I may need the additional dosage, but I fear that I might ruin its affect altogether.

That being said, even with these newly discovered recovery supplements, it seems that every few weeks, I still need to take 4-5 days of very little training to help my CNS recover. I know when its time to take a few rest days, because I wont knock out like I normally do with these adrenal fatigue supplements, I have super low energy throughout the day and my back acne flares up.

So my goal is to at least shave off 1 or a few of those days off from training, Iâ??m thinking maybe if I cycle in Biotest’s Rhodiola, whenever Iâ??m not taking the Yin Builder. Also, cystic acne seems to be a significant genetic issue in my family, even though Iâ??m very strict on my diet, it seems that I cant get this severe back acne and moderately severe chest acne off me ( both parents had acne in these same spots! Father-Mexican, Mother-Italian). Perhaps massage therapy/acupuncture could be an effective solution, but Iâ??m a poor college student and its consistency is way out of my budget, :frowning: . Iâ??d had only 3 deep tissue massages in my life and one of them was about 2 weeks ago, they were all paid for by someone else or complimentary.

I hope may have helped others discover a potential solution for their sleep deprivation with this post. Furthermore, does anyone have any advice what could be some additional recovery supplements that can keep me in the gym more? Maybe this back acne and chest acne is a sign of my hormonal profile, that someone is familiar with and there are specific solutions for these areas signs? Im training for a bodybuilding contest right now, about 9 weeks out, been losing weight, getting leaner and stronger. Im going to send some letters out today, trying to get a sponsorship , so that I can hopefully get more optimal recovery solutions, food and supplements to really benefit from my unshakable mental determination.

Any thoughts/ input are greatly appreciated!

I just wasted a couple minutes trying to read that, please format it so the characters are recognized on this site.

while we’re on the subject, what is CNS fatigue exactly? we learn in school that the CNS has neurons going to the muscles. All these neurons can really do is excite the muscles to contract by releasing acetocholine. Is CNS fatigue a lack of Ach? What would be an example of CNS fatigue?

my take on it is that the CNS fatigue people talk about is more just a hormonal or muscular recovery issue i.e. getting pumped up to lift a 600 lb deadlift for reps, by picturing your child stuck under a car, is not going to happen twice a week for months on end

From what I can recall, I’ve been under the influence from Thibs

…and poliquin about CNS burnout/fatigue or Overtraining, maybe there is a better and more precise term I don’t know.

From searching about the topic, here are some links I’ve pulled up right away, I feel that there were a lot more instances:

I switched from 6 days a week to 5 or 4 days a week and it helped a lot. Also used some “Adrenal” supplements and took a monthly “deload” from caffeine. Good luck!

Hm…interesting. I’ve had the same problems for years. Did you get your cortisol levels checked? I guess it’s moot at this point as the protocol you tried seems to be working. I’d give the yin builder a try but I’m staying away from licorice…far far away.

Whats your beef on licorice? I think there are several uses and forms that do different things, maybe you’ve been influenced on one particular form for having a bad reputation. Curious to hear why and where did you hear some negative things about licorice…

Licorice sucks for your blood pressure

Long story short, according to one study, licorice lowers T levels (in some cases as much as 40%). As a mid 30’s guy, I just didn’t want to risk something like that. My levels are really good for my age and I want them to stay that way.

Not to try and sound so gay for Poliquin, but if he recommends it, I doubt its harmful, its EVEN part of a Testosterone Boosting Plan he describes!
I’ve definitely have not seen a decrease in testosterone taking it!
He does recommend to avoid it if you have high blood pressure though.
