Adding 100lbs to a Total

So in my 1st meet I totaled 1100lb but b/c of a couple of misses and what not, I left about 35-45 lbs on the platform. Bout to do my 2nd meet and if I hit all my #'s I’ll be sitting 5lbs shy of 1200lbs. The APF is going to be having a meet at my gym Oct. 30 so that gives me about 14 weeks to get ready.

My goal is to hit 1300 for that meet 450,300,550. If I hit all my #'s next week I’ll be at 420,275,500. In just the last 3 months(if I hit those #'s next week) I will have added about 40lbs to my squat, 30lb to my bench and 100lbs to my dead. So I’m looking at adding another 30,25,50. Is this a reasonable goal or am I over reaching?

depends how your training is going. are the lifts moving or are they plataued…depends on a lot…

unfortunately your training for the next 3 months will dictate the numbers you try to hit at the meet. you won’t know til 3 months from now.

Are you competing geared? If so, you could always upgrade your gear into something better, and 14 weeks should be enough time to learn the new stuff.

nope raw

They are all going up, every time I max it seems. When  I hit all the #'s next week they will all be PR’s. I have been doing 3 days a week for a while now but I think Im going to switch to a true 5-3-1 after next week

are you doing all your lifts with straight weight?

It’s difficult to tell what you will be doing in 3 months. Given that you are competing raw and the progress you’ve had over the last several months, the numbers you are wanting in October are pretty ambitious. That being said, if you are a relative beginner, are gaining weight during this process, and improve your technique between now and October, those numbers certainly aren’t out of the question.
Of course you’ll never know unless you try, so keep at it and see what happens.

It is possible… But it does seem like it would be difficult to add that much to all of your lifts at once without specializing one lift at a time. The real bugger I think will be that 50lbs to your DL. I say keep doing what your doing; bust your ass but don’t get carried away and under-rest yourself. That will be much more of a headache than not reaching that 1300

I think doing that raw, with no significant increase in bodyweight or other things that might assist you, is very ambitious. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go for it, provided you are able to recover adequately.

Just making sure your technique is in order can improve your lifts instantly. It might be worth posting a few videos.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I know thats a big goal but Id rather set the bar high than to low. I dont have a good video of my squat but I have 1 or 2 deads lift videos and a bench, both vids are from the 10th

That was 480 I think I could have hit 500 there but it would have been close.

here is my bench…Its the one that really needs the work. I played it safe and didn’t push myself as I had missed my 2nd and 3rd squat for being supid

Stop screaming when you pull. Seriously, you’re letting all your air out.

I don’t think it’s likely that you will hit the numbers you want without gaining a fuck ton of weight unless you have been close to them before and for some reason are below your all-time best now.

I wouldn’t switch the training up at all if you’re making steady progress with your current plan. Don’t fix what ain’t broke. Hitting military press hard every week will negatively affect your bench training too, or at least that has been my experience. If you are hell bent for leather on doing this I’d suggest only doing the prescribed reps.

I agree with Steel Nation about the military press.

I wouldn’t exclude it from your training, but I would personally kind of keep it in the background; I would knock ~10% off your 1RM before configuring the weight percentages for your military press.

Not really something I can help it, just happens. And don’t you get the same effect either way? Contraction of the core and pushing aginst the belt. But Its something I can work on I guess.

But I haven’t made much progress in the bench. I am (by far) weakest in my shoulders and upper back/lats. Doing MP every weak for say…7-9 weeks out of the 14 would be a bad thing? I had planed on my military day to look something like - military press/row(of some kind)/pull-up.

As far as gaining weight, right now im taking in 4k-5k cal. a day and have lost about 15 lbs but my #s are still going up. Im taking in about 250-350g of protein a day, my weights as lvled off in the last month or so but I have had to cut any conditioning I was doing all together(and it wasn’t much) b/c I kept loosing wight. I was planning on getting down to 198 by Oct(at about 210 now). I think 14 weeks is more than enough time to cut weight and still keep my numbers up.

And even if I dont hit 1300 by then thats fine b/c it will be my 3rd meet and I have alot of years ahead of me.

don’t contract your core on any lift. as far as your programming goes, steels right. any program will eventually stall. don’t switch it up til it does, get the most you can out of it, then reassess. you’re hitting your numbers, keep with it.
