If you’ve noticed a change here, folks, I’m going to try something a little different for a couple months & see how it goes. I’ll invert the usual week that I’ve been doing; rather than daily weekday deadlifts with a Saturday squat session, I’m going to go with back squatting at a modest weight & volume Monday through Friday (expect to see the workout listed above a lot…) with a Saturday front squat session that works up to a heavy FS double and then a Sunday deadlift variation. The 700 deadlift is still the main goal, but I think pushing my squat up from the low 400’s up to 500 would be a useful milestone on the way there, so I’ll give the squat a couple months of love and see how it goes.

Afternoon workout with my fellow faculty member. To be honest, I didn’t really want to take the rep at 420, but he needled me into it. Came up pretty easily, but I want to build a bit better base of squatting strength before going past that again.

Treated myself to a pair of Rehband 7mm knee sleeves. Over the last few years I’ve been squatting in a pair of Hookgrip knee sleeves which are very light warmth and support but no real compression, and I’ve thought for awhile about this; with my efforts focused on squatting at the moment, seemed like a good time to give this a shot. Really liked the first workout in the heavier duty sleeves. Finished with a crisp and easy single at 405.

The current trio of goals for me is a 405 front squat, 500 back squat and the main goal of a 700 deadlift.

Worked out on campus with my buddy today. He hit a nice sumo pull at 495 but then missed 515. He’s got the strength - he’s been able to squat with me every time - just needs to get used to pulling heavy again, I think.
