@simo74: yeah, I’m fine, just letting myself ease up some on the weights as I adjust to a more varied routine. The daily dose of a couple deadlift singles at 335 after the day’s workout is still good. Weight is down to 236.8 as of this morning, so I’m down about 22 pounds in 10 weeks. Feeling good, and may ratchet intensity up a bit on some of the workouts as spring turns into summer.

Done as a superset. Pretty happy with two sets of 5 at 145 to finish here; not that it’s the world’s greatest lift, but that I’ve not done very much upper body work in my recent training history and I’d like to work towards a bodyweight overhead press this year. My main progression goal is still “deadlift 500+ at my progressively leaner bodyweight” but this is a nice secondary goal to pursue.

Slowly and surely will add volume and weight to the axle pressing (keeping the basic framework of the workout the same, starting at 55 pounds and hitting 85, 115, 145, while eventually working towards 5’s at progressively heavier weights for the last set or two; my eventual workout should be something like 10x55, 5x85, 5x115, 5x145, 5x180, 5x180).
Thanks man. I don’t know about “looking lean” so much as “looking like I’ve lost some of the love handles that had been creeping up on me” but I’ll take it - I do know that shedding 25 pounds in three months is worth smiling about.
I think I’ll start to feel truly lean (by my standards, which are not bodybuilder/physique by any stretch) once I’m in the 215-220ish range; at that point I ought to be in “looks good with a shirt off” / “looks like he lifts” territory. By the end of this year, I’d really like to level off and hold at about 210 pounds.
Some history here: I was about 240ish pounds in high school and always felt like a “big” guy (and always took ribbing from classmates about being husky; I don’t think you’d say I have any clinically significant “issues” from it, but it was definitely a sore spot at that time). My senior year I cut to 215 pounds for wrestling and, for the first time, felt like I had something resembling an “impressive” physique. I gained some weight back for college football (as high as 260 - not good - but played my junior & senior seasons around 235-240 and felt good there). After my last college football season, I dropped to about 205 and felt great there; over the next few years I hung around in the low 200’s and even dipped into the 190’s when I was doing lots of long distance running. Anyways, that’s just some rambling history, but I think about 210 pounds is the happy medium for me where I will feel the right combination of “big and strong compared to a normal person” but also “lean enough to feel healthy & look good with a shirt off.”
