Achieving God Mode
jacob-1310 wrote:
Whats tendinitis in your calf feel like?
Feels like shit brah. It’s a constant dull ache and if I try to spring off that leg on it’s own it feels like there’s not as much power there as there should be. It’s kinda similar to elbow tendinitis if you’ve ever had that, though I think the pain in the elbow can be a bit sharper.

Your training always looks so interesting and well thought out, would love to see what you could do for a chaotic, a.d.d based training style like mine!
Haha thanks brah I appreciate that a lot - I like to think of it as controlled chaos but I put a lot of thought in to my workouts and the long plan. A lot of my previous time working out was all by feel, but as I learned more about programming and periodisation I realised I could make better gains by combining the two.

And I do provide these controlled chaos programming services for a small price to anyone out there who may be interested.

AM
Power Cleans:
3 on the minute for 10 minutes
Total Reps: 33 - miss counted on Monday lol
These were tougher than on Monday but I was also generating WAY more power - I was catching these with my legs completely straight. Form improved with each minute.

Ab Fallouts On Rings:
3
10
10
Surprised myself with these, felt pretty strong.

Cardio:
On the old Weider bike (lol)
30 seconds @ 7 or 8
30 seconds @ 4 or 5
5 minutes total.
Nice. Will gradually build up the minutes and intensity on this. Ease myself back in to cardio gently.

Notes:
Pretty great session, felt great throughout. My sleep pattern lately is fucked though, I’m not going to bed early enough or getting enough sleep.

PM
Strict Deadstop Press From Pins at Chin Height:
20kg x 5
30kg x 4
40kg x 3
50kg x 5
55kg x 5 x 4 - awesome
These felt great, really got them in my delts. Noticed some odd strength curve patterns; start of the press was very strong for the first two reps then quickly tapered off, but lock out got more positive and dominant as the set went on. Happened every working set. =/

Bench with Feet Up:
20kg x 15
60kg x 10 x 5 - every set felt easy and awesome
Got a pretty nice pump going. Worked in 15 band pullaparts between each working set.

Then I fancied trying something a bit different. I wanted to create an unstable bar, like a bamboo bar or one with weights hanging from bands. My steel plates are the tri-grip variety and the handles are big enough to slot over the sleeves. I hung the 20s on to the sleeves through the handles and tried it out:

Unstable Bar Bench:
60kg x 15 - pretty interesting!
So these felt pretty cray. Not sure what, if any useful carry over they might have but they were fun. Wouldn’t want to go heavy with these at all as the bar was wobbling back and forth a tonne. Did another set of 15 band pullaparts after.

Notes:
Awesome session. Took me under half an hour to get all this work done and it’s hot as balls today so I am sweating like a mofo too. Felt great the whole session and the unstable bar bench was a fun thing to try out.

Sometimes I take off of a lift for a few weeks and come back fresh and stronger. Hoping the same for you buddy. I would love a bike, but Ninja 1000 or something, so affordable, but very risky as you’re now open to much more serious danger on the road, that’s the only thing holding me back.
Yeah I hope so.

Man a Ninja is the fucking dream, whaddabike. But yeah, it’s a deathtrap too lol.

Controlled chaos is a good term for what you’re doing. You do a lot of neat stuff, and it seems to work well for ya.

Controlled Chaos Bros!

Thanks for asking bro - it seems to be doing a lot better. I’m still going to keep squats to a minimum for a bit but I’m back on the cleans and snatches. Just easing it back in to the game. I know my legs are going to kill when I get back on the squats!

yar how do?

and did I read right, you got your motorcycle license? whatcha ride? (gawd I miss mine)
Yeah, partially right lol. I did my Compulsory Bike Training - it’s mandatory before getting a full bike licence in the UK. I can only drive 125s and can’t go on motorways and have to have L plates fml! It’s a Honda CBF125. It looks the part at least!

But I don’t mind that it’s not a beast… The extra freedom is enough for me.
yea all good. it’s just a matter of time before you can ride something bigger. I would suggest something like an R6/CBR600RR or similar. I started with a regular 600 and it felt slow after a few months. just be gentle with high rpm full throttle action until you get used to the bike and you’re gtg.

actually if you’re ok with the bodystyle, look into a streetfighter or a standard. most of your riding is done upright anyway and the more upright riding position is comfier for long rides. I’d like a Yamaha FZ8 someday.

good stuff, that mark twain quote is actually up on my gym wall. shame the place isn’t very focused on excellence despite a couple good quotes.

@Gmoore, thanks man. :slight_smile:

@spar, like the Mario Bros but jacked! Now where did we leave the princess…?

@fr0, oh man you totally out-bike-nerded me there, I’m still a mega noob when it comes to them. But I’ll check out those bikes and dream lol.

@Jake, thanks man. Yeah most people in most places are unfocused… It takes work to not be like that!

AM
Warmups: 15 band dislocates, 15 pipe dislocates

Power Snatch:
1 snatch on the minute for 10 minutes.
Total reps: 11 @ 60kg - not bad
I had to pad my pubic bone with some socks so the pain from my bruising was bearable. First few reps were basically muscle snatches, technique was shit. Last three actually started feeling a bit better.

Back Lever - Tuck:
10s
10s
10s
10s
10s
12s
Felt great!

Notes:
Felt good this session. Sun is shining, it’s warm, I’m feeling good. Fucking love the sun. Also the glacially slow tunes of Sigur Ros are suiting me really well during workouts.

My traps fucking hurt right now.

My abs too. FUCK.

PM
Warmups: 20 air squats

Supra-Max Squat Holds:
-warmups-
185kg - walk out & 5 second hold
Felt pretty comfortable walking out. Just knew I couldn’t squat it though lol.

Squat (Bare Feet):
60kg x 10
100kg x 3
120kg x 2 - all these sets felt ridiculously light after the supra-max hold
140kg x 5 - felt very solid
Didn’t push the weight or reps today, but this was pretty close to my best and my calf felt fine. Left elbow was bugging me a little though. Gonna keep it slow coming back in to it but I’m optimistic.

Natural GHR:
15 negatives - 5rep PR
Dat pump omg!

Notes:
I’m pleased with how this went and how the calf felt. 140kg felt pretty light and if I’d been confident of pushing it I reckon I’m good for 8 - 10 reps now.

In excellent news it is now warm enough to swim! Had a recovery swim/cool down after my workout and that was awesome.

You gonna be squatting grown man weight pretty soon

You knows it.
spar4tee wrote:

lol, thanks brah. Reviewing the video these squats looked VERY good. Gonna whore the volume for a while if the calf is up to it, then tackle some man weights.

Oh man, this weather is literally beautiful. It’s hard not to enjoy training and life when the sun’s shining. Good squatting, stronger then me today for sure.

TO A SUMMER OF BEASTMODE!

Truly!

And bro, if you’re ever down south you need to come stay with me - we can smash the iron, then swim, then have a braai and eat steak and potatoes and beer and wine, and then head in to town to hear the lamentation of the women!

Bro, I’m definitely up for that, will try and come up with something. Lamentation of womens sounds ideal. SFW w/steak and potatoes and predator handshake sound almost worth the train fare alone.

by air or sea?

You make me want to try Oly lift variations… but I feel I’m almost too awkward for simple things like Squats and Pressing, so why even try. lol

Good to see the squats are back on track. I’ve noticed a lot of people who squat multiple times per week in oly shoes seem to have calf issues, mine are perpetually tight and getting knots in them…might be something to do with that. I know oly lifters in general seem to have a lot of calf issues.

^^Pre steroids.

@Jake, yeah boyeee. Although a flight might be cheaper than the train!

@Sam, you knows it!

@Spidey, lol well with that attitude you definitely won’t ever get good at them. Most people suck to begin with… I lost count of the number of times I hit my chin with the bar on cleans!

@Phlegms, yeah I was having similar thoughts. I didn’t know it was common in Oly lifters but I reasoned that putting your calf in a shortened position then super-stretching it with the great rom that comes from Oly lifting is the text-book kind of aggravation that could flair up that kind of tendinitis. Hence I’ve been squatting and cleaning in bare feet lately. Think I’ll reserve my shoes for front squats and heavy lifts for a while.

AM
Warmups: some rolling with softball

Power Cleans:
3 reps on the minute for 10 minutes
Total reps: 65kg x 33 - 5kg PR
Felt pretty awesome. Power is still feeling awesome, catching with straight legs but I was breathing a lot heavier.

Back Lever - Tuck:
10s
10s
10s
10s
10s
10s
These felt proper strong, stable and controlled today. Best yet. Feeling confident for a few weeks time to when I move on to a flat tuck.

Abs:
1a: incline sit-ups: 30 / 20
1b: incline twisties: 5kg x 20 / 5kg x 20
Sick burn.

Notes:
Fucking LOVE GOOD WEATHER. This workout was a lot of fun, everything felt sweet. Canâ??t believe I am enjoying ab work. Definitely not enjoying all the ab doms I am experiencing though lol.

PM
Warmups: 20 band dislocates, 20 pipe dislocates

Bench:
20kg x 15
60kg x 5
80kg x 3
90kg x 2
100kg x 5 x 2
102.5kg x 5 x 3 - felt easier than the 100 sets
100kg x 5 - Definite Volume PR at this point
Benching felt pretty amazing all in all. So much volume. Luvin’ it. Every set was well within my limits I felt.

Incline:
60kg x 8
70kg x 8 x 2
Fuck me these felt heavy/hard after all the flat benching.

Ring Dips:
BW x 20
Holding myself up was a challenge but once I got in the groove these felt good.

Notes:
Tasty pump in my chest, shoulders feel great, boshed out the volume, sun is shining. Good day, good day. Might even be tanning a little. To be god mode, you realy gotta have a tan, right?

Solid benching, mirin’ your training in general.
