Absolute best guitarist? Drummer?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot. Has there been any rock album released in the last 10 years that has had good guitar on it? (I was considering starting a new thread on this.)

What the hell happned to 2 handed tapping and the whammy bar? You’re lucky to hear a guitar solo in today’s rock!

modern guitarist:
Morello (RATM)
Frusciante (RHCP)
Clapton
Hammet (mulletica)
Armstrong (Rancid, ok thats a joke but he still rocks)

Good rock guitar albums? Man, pick up a dream theater or symphony x album. That’ll do it.

Jeff Rage…you are going to have to get ahold of some Satch or Steve Vai. Most of the “rock group” album stuff these days is waaayy too commercialized to be that musically interesting in the areas you are talking about. Although I did heard that Nugents new album rocks. And what about the Huge Nuge…the Detroit City Madman! He can swing a mean ax!

Alex Lifeson’s solos are somtimes sublte…but extremely challenging to play. That is not the nature of most of their music. But listen to La Villa Strangiato off of Hemispheres…and tell me Alex can’t play!

john bonham keith moon neal peart
stevie ray vaughn jimi hendrix brian may
phil collins geddy lee vanhale
king of the delta blues robert johnson

Just for the record it’s RHOADS…not Rhodes…Thank you

Yeah, Alex Lifeson and Ted Nugent definitely have my votes!

Someone else I just remembered who was never too mainstream, but could really play out the melodies is a guy named Bill Nelson.

Used to play with Be Bop Deluxe.

Anybody remember him? Incredible talent.

PtrDR, I must have mentioned Satch in 3 posts on this thread! I really like Surfinf…, and Flying…, but the albums after that weren’t as good IMO.

I really liked Passion & Warfare.

Have either put anything out in the past few years?

Satriani put out “Strange Beautiful Music”. It seems different from his usual stuff (shorter), but I really like it.
