Abs Visibility Issue

Hi all, just joined the forums. I was just reading the article that stated you need below 9.8% bf to get visible abs. I am, and always have been, a very slim and athletic person, but I can’t see a visible six pack–it’s more like a tangle of muscles or something. It is really frustrating because I’ve been training for over two years now, so I’m obviously not doing something right.

I’m 20 years old and can bench, squat, and deadlift my own weight easily. I’m thinking maybe I need to focus on weighted ab training and fewer reps to build their size. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Could be genetics, even really skinny guys that aren’t athletic at all have “packs”.

Direct heavy work wouldn’t hurt though.

I haven’t personally tried this yet, but it looks rewarding.

front squats

do fuckloads of core,
and try to drop a bit more weight, 9’s a norm
but i know guys that had to get down close to 5 to see abs

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I’m also only 154 pounds. Even though my main lifts are more that this, I’m thinking maybe I need to pack on more muscle altogether, so should I start lifting really heavy for a while?

Actually it’s 9.65%…

Just work hard until you see your abs. Deadlifts, squats, and some incline sit ups with a plate on your chest will help.

I found that for me i had to add some muscle to my frame before my abs even showed up. I had low body fat through out my teens and while i could see “abs” in terms of muscle groups, i didnt have a six pack. Despite all the ab work you could imagine. This all changed when i added an extra 10-15 kg to my body. I cant explain it. Maybe my abs managed to grow aswell.
