maybe the guy realized that the best place to find information about losing weight in the midsection and getting nice abs was from bodybuilders.

That’s what brought me here. After years of trying a variety of diets and such, I had a little lightbulb go off and I was like “you know those bodybuilder guys are big, and have to get ripped for competitions all the time, maybe they know what’s going on.”

At 5’11 200 pounds you have two primary options for leaning out. The first would be to cut the fat, which I believe would be the wrong option. If I were you I would follow a beginner BB program, build some quality mass for a while. Then after having a frame to cut off of, I would begin to cut the fat then. There is a big difference between a chubby 200 and a lean 200.
I was looking for some tips on burning fat… i’m pretty lean, im 19 and a little under 5’5, I weigh 125 and do have muscle, I can squat 100 lbs and i keep my body pretty tones, but I have some extra I would like to get rid of in my trouble areas- surprisingly NOT my stomach, rather, I have some cellulite in my thigh area, how can I get rid of it, I do 300 cals of cardio almost everyday, and I haven’t lost a pound! And I havent eaten over 1100 calories a day, please help me!! Maybe I should be wathcin other things rather than carbs? Thanks
this is a joke, or this is a girl, right? or maybe a bit of both?

I was wondering the same thing! If it’s not a joke, then yes, you should be worrying about other things apart from carbs. Less cardio, more lifting, and more HIIT. More protein usually doesn’t hurt either.

You definitely should be watching other things than carbs. 1100 calories for anyone is starvation mode. This is why you arent losing. Your body will not lose fat if its not getting enough food to run itself. PM me and we will talk a little more about it.

I don’t know. I would’ve thought he would’ve been lighter. Depending on bodyfat, 200 lbs is not too bad. Even if he has 20 lbs a fat to lose to get to a lean 180, I think that’s enough muscle to support dieting, assuming of course proper weight-training and an appropriate diet, if that’s what he wants to do.
I would rather see him lower his BF% while gaining quality muscle than dieting down. We are pretty close in size, himself and I, and I would rather reccomend he gain and lean out as a byproduct rather than just lose and not learn the lesson to build and work hard.
A lean 180, and a lean 200 on a 5’11 guy would look like two totally different guys. When I was 180, I was still a skinny bastard who went to the gym. At 200+ I look like a lifter. I get more attention from both sexes, and I feel better. And isn’t that what we all do this for?

Sure, but longterm and immediate goals don’t have to be the same thing. It all depends on what the original poster and others want. A lean 180 could be achieved in relatively short order and maintained for a time. Then, he should add muscle if he wants by all means. A lean 200 will take much longer. It’s another way of going about it and a good one. But replacing 20 lbs of fat with 20 lbs of muscle is not going to be attainable in the same timeframe.

Okay so he builds slower and leans faster. So he has a lean 190 sooner and over a year after that he comes up to a solid 200 at 5’11. That is the beginnings of an awesome physique. He can drop the weight and be skinny fat with no knowledge of how to build a physique, or do it right and have a real physique.

Whatever. What we think doesn’t matter. It’s whatever what he wants to do. Personally, I don’t consider a lean 180 at 5’11 skinny-fat. Not big, but not skinny-fat either. And of course to get their he would be lifting intensly. Just like he would be if he was trying to gain muscle. The knowledge gained would be exactly the same. Lifting should not change except maybe adding some volume that a greater amount of calories makes feasible. The intensity should always be there. So should a proper diet, and learning about appropriate eating. The only thing that would change after losing the fat as far as diet goes would be upping calories and carbs. Food choices should not change much. Focusing only on fat loss is not doing things the wrong way. It’s just doing things a different way. I really don’t see a problem with taking 2-3 months to lose all the fat while establishing proper lifting and eating habits and then working to gain muscle if that is indeed a goal someone has. He’d probably even gain a few lbs of muscle during the fat loss phase. Getting there through starvation and cardio is a different story.
