?? about getting ear pierced...

Ok…kind of a stupid question, but not any worse than some asked here…my 15th anniversary is coming up…my wife and I are going to Ft Lauderdale for 4 nights…I am normally a clean cut professional type…I thought about getting one of my ears pierced for some ‘bad boy’ kinda fun with her…my question is which ear? and what is the general t-vixen feeling about this, is it kinda ‘bad boy’ sexy? or is it kinda wierd? if I do it, do I get a small hoop or a stud? Thanks and I hope this isn’t too stupid…

To answer the first part, generally speaking the left ear is the norm. When I was in school, it was accepted that if you had the “wrong” ear pierced (in the case the right one) you’d be called a fag an mercilessly teased. Personally, I have two in my left ear, and one in my right, as well as tongue ring.

Next thing: If you want to pierce your ear, go for it, but don't do it to attain any "bad boy" image. Earring--or piercings in general--as well as tattoos, are far too common to be rebellious. Hell, every kid I know has an earing, and very few of them are "bad boys." Most are very conformist actually.

As far as the kind of earring, I'd say just get a stud as they're easier to maintain if you've never had a piercing. Have fun.

Rick: I’m right with you bro! Seems like every man that hangs in my crowd has one (and a shaved head! Wassup with THAT?)

I’d like to know what the ladies think too! (What I would REALLY like is a “Bajoran” earring of “Star Trek” fame, but the ones I’ve seen look too “cheesy”. Any good ones out there guys?).

Oh…as the ladies at work have told me…you wear it in the left ear if gay…hetero in the right…(is that correct…or is it the other way? I forget! My man Shawn Ray wears one in both ears…)

So…The Lion is contemplating the 'ole earring too!

I prefer a small hoop to a stud. I think it can be sexy, it just depends on the guy. The man makes a peircing sexy, but the peircing doesn’t necessarily make the man sexy. I think the most important thing is that you need to feel comfortable with it to pull it off. Also, it is relatively painless so if you hate it take it out and in a week you’ll never even know it was there.

I’d say get 'em both pierced(way cool) if not, do the left. You have to originally pierce with studs, but then you can move to a small hoop if you would like. Personally I like diamond studs about 1/4 carat. BTW I have my tongue and Le bre pierced.(These are the real chick magnets, why?? I really couldn’t tell ya)

Back when I was a long haired rock & roller, I wore two 1 inch hoops. Now that I cut my hair, I don’t wear them anymore. I will say that I got a lot of compliments on them, but with short hair it just doesn’t work for me.

One thing to remember is that when you get an ear pierced, you have to leave a temporary stud in for a few weeks for the piercing to take. In other words, you shouldn't plan on getting pierced on Friday with the intention of taking it out on Monday for work.

P.S. Left ear=hetero, right ear=homo, and both ears=bass player. :)

Oh…Eriq LaSalle (in his last few weeks as “Dr. Benton” on “ER”), wore two earrings of two different styles! Pretty cool!

What do you guys think of that? As someone said earlier (maybe in another post), certain people can pull certain things off while others can’t…

Mufasa

I sport two in the left and one in the right. SMALL platinum hoops. I’m not a high roller who has expensive platinum jewelry(I don’t like gold, and I’m allergic to silver.) I always seem to get complimented on my appearance. (I have short hair, and I’m clean cut.) Anyway, I take em’ out for work and sometimes I forget to put in when I go out. So just last week I went to this club and met this chick. She was cool so we met over the weekend for lunch and I had em’ in. She immediately noticed the change, and fed my ego. Very few people can pull off the diamond studs. I can’t…but I’m not P Diddy either.

I like earrings on a man, but it depends on the man. My husband, for example, would look absolutely ridiculous with his ear(s) pierced! It all depends on what kind of guy you are and whether your personality and image can support a piercing. As for studs and hoops–I like small hoops much better on men than studs. Studs seem more feminine to me.

I don’t think it matters much which ear you pierce anymore; time was when it did, but as was previously posted it’s no longer an act of rebellion or statement of sexual preference, it’s more of an accessory. If you’re going to do it, pierce both and get small silver hoops instead of studs (though black men can wear gold hoops, it just looks cheesey on paler skin tones). Personally, I don’t care for earrings on men - unless they have the attitude and physical attributes of Vin Diesel. I can’t tell you how many ways I’d hurt him, and have him begging for more. Nipple or “member” piercings are rather sexy though.

I don’t think there’s much ‘bad boy’ about piercing anything anymore. I like earrings on men, but they need to be able to support it. Some guys just look weird, like they are trying too hard to be cool. I do not like the look of facial piercings at all.

Actually, the left side vs. right side difference is still in effect. If you go to the Castro district in L.A. and see a man with only one earring, you can be 90% sure that it will be in his right ear.

Go for balance and symetry dude. One in each ear. I wear 14 guage horseshoes, one in each. They are kinda low-profile, but just flashy enuf to catch attention of those looking. To me, they represent a connection to my youth. I wouldnt associate a “bad boy” connotation to them, its more like a variation from the norm, especially if you are in a professional environment, like myself.

If you really want to be adventurous and bad boyish, get a belly button ring and hook it with a chain to your prince albert. I don’t know any guy who has done that, you’d definatelly be unique.

I work a professional job and keep my earrings in all the time. I have two earrings in each ear. I wear small silver hoops. I also have both nipples pierced. You can see photos of me with a shaved head, goatee, earrings and pierced nipples on my web site. And like others have said, the piercing doesn’t make you look good, it’s how you wear them. Many people don’t look good with piercings. You have to have “the look” to pull it off. Some people just look better with them than others. Same goes for facial hair. Some can pull it off, others cannot. If you’re only doing one earring, then go with the left. I’d recommend doing one in each ear. As for your work, check with HR before piercing them to see if they have a policy against earrings. Everyone has been pretty cool about my piercings at my job. I’ve been wearing them to work for nearly three years (originally, I took them out. Then I would forget every now and then, and after a while I figured that I would just keep them in). Although, my boss doesn’t like them. But he’s old fashioned. And he’s never said I can’t wear them. And not many people know my nipples are pierced unless they see me shirtless at the pool, beach or working out.

I have both ears pierced and used to wear small platinum hoops. However, I no longer wear them. I had them years ago as a way to be a bit different from the average person. Today, every teenage wannabe punk has at least one in each ear. It just doesn’t make me somewhat unique anymore so I don’t wear them. As a matter of fact, I’ve stopped wearing all jewelry aside from a watch. I used to wear necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earings. Now it’s a conversation starter as to why I no longer wear jewelry. I actually kinda like not puting all that stuff on. I think it gives me a more honest/as I am type appearance. Now I am also sort of turned off by girls who wear tons of jewelry.

I am with Cyman on this one. I am a little slow in keeping up with fads and about the time I thought I was ready for an earring, everyone else had them. I think not having any piercings is almost as unusual as having them now. I got the obligatory tattoo a few years ago and I don’t regret it, but wouldn’t miss it if I woke up one morning and it was gone. Herc

I’ll bet you will look like a real cutie with your ear pierced.

I’ve got my lebrete (sp?) pierced, and it makes me look like a fuckin’ stud. At least thats what my mom says. And remember, piercings are temporary and can be taken out if you don’t like the look of them.
