I have fairly strong abdominals, but my goal is for them to be flat when viewed from the side. my upper abs are relatively flat, but as you follow my abdominal muscle down towards my pelvis, it goes out about 2-3 inches at its peak at my belly button, and then goes back into my pelvis. i know this is not all fat, i’m around 11 % at my last caliper test. i was wondering what sort of excerizes would flatten my abdominals. in addition, i recall reading something about having an out of aligned pelvis would cause the lower abdominals to bulge like this, any truth to this statement ?
I think what you seriously should consider is the abdominal vacuum. I use them with pretty good success. They help you develop a good feel for your abs, and I believe they help reduce the waist line. Maybe one of the experts on this panel can respond to this, but they help as part of a good ab program, and you can do them anywhere. I do mine everyday while working, standing and sitting. Just a thought.
It is my understanding that ones abs will never be exactly flat as you are saying, there will always be a slight tendency to buldge. There are other things to consider also such as the fact that there is fat tissue surrounding the internal organs which contribute to this to a degree. In particular I have heard of bodybuilders whom have ripped abs with a pretty big buldge in there gut resulting from certain drugs and poor diet ect…which contribute to excess storage of fat around there internal organs. This is my understanding of this, someone correct me on this if I am wrong, I am always looking for more info on such things.
I feel your pain - I’ve got the same problem. It’s from tight hip flexors pulling your pelvis out of alignment. Stretching helps to some degree but it’s largely genetic and gonna be that way. Any stretch that pulls your upper leg back will stretch the flexors, small muscles that connect the top of th thigh with the pelvis.
Chris-there is truth to the tight hip flexors, belive me i know about this one. Another point though is that 11% is not that low when it comes to BF and seeing the abs. What your abdominal sf measurement? You will have to get lower than 10 mm to really see good outlines, and even lower for ripped abs. Or of course you could pay a visit to Dr. Nadler. Good luck.
