Just wanted to see if there was any fellow competing wrestlers out there who wanted to share tips etc.
Anything from conditioning to cutting weight before competitions.
Just start of with a question if there are any here.
How much above your weight class do you usually lay on a normal day, and how do you cut the last pounds of water weight?
I usually lie steady about 3-4 kg or 6-8 pounds above my weight class, take in quiet a bit of sodium the week before and cut all salts from my diet the last 2-3 cut down on the water and sit in the sauna with my credit card to scrape off my sweat in 15minutes cycles to cut the last pounds.
Conditioning i like to use heavy hill sprints, tire flips, sledge routine and ofcourse hard sparring.
Not sure if this is going to since i’m spreading old news and techniques, but i’m always looking to pick up more from other wrestlers, grapplers, fighters etc.
I hate the salt bath! Uck… Hehe, it works really well though. One thing i never really understood, why does the headstand work? I’ve had to use it a few times myself and its flawless. Works evertime…
How was the olympic center? Seen a video on youtube from some of the training, seems pretty wicked!
You usually used full body workouts with O-lifts etc? Same here, sometimes i do a pushpull split with one olympic day to get in some variation to my training ofcourse.
What kind of injuries did you get?
Got a few my self, i snapped my tendens in my eblow and splintered my funny bone in semi finals last nationals which really sucked. Got myself a knee injury from Submission wrestling and was a newbie and wouldnt tap out. Still hurts today. It’s one sweet sport, but pretty high risk.
I’m a big fan of the salt bath for recovery, but can you give more info on the salt + alcohol and headstand technique? I’m sure I’ve read about the salt and alcohol, but need more details.
epsom salts and wintergreen alcolhol…
helps with dehydration.
The premise - while immersed in water
the body’s water will leach out- kind of osmosis. And its while your at rest.
The head stand I started to see more and more at tournaments as a kid, then all the time.
kind of like an urban legend no way to explain it but it works for people an ounce or two over somehow it works ounces or 1/2 ounces not pounds

i wish i knew what i know now when i wrestled in high school
your methods seem proper hence keep doing them!
and the best advice i can give to any wrestler is technique and speed. it overcomes any amount of strength.
use bodies for weights, not olympic weights. i think karelin would agree

i believe o2 restriction is a relatively new method of training?? wanderlei silva, former pride lhw champ, recently started doing this.
i dont know how i feel about this yet… its supposedly aimed at lactic acid buildup to fatigue the muscles quicker. lack of o2 to a working muscle also induces igf-1 and/or gh. it obviously worked for wand as he ktfo of jardine this past month.
