A Strong Squat, Brutal Bench Press, Dauntless Deadlift, and Massive Military press are as easy as 5/3/1

Thank you kindly

Awesome pulling, lotsa volume too.
See you went heavier on the deficits.

Why thank you  I figured I’d take a page from your log and do a bit more volume than usual. Heavier indeed. Hopefully it’ll help out with my off the floor strength.

Monday 3/21/11

Shrugs (staggered w/ band leg curls)
10x135
10x185
10x225
10x275
10x315
10x365

Haha damn nice shrugging. Are you using straps on those?

Haha thanks, I figured I’d get in a quick 15 minute mini-session before doing work and classes. I tried out my new straps on the last set, but decided that it felt weird so didn’t bother using them. I guess I need to get used to using straps just in case.

Future world record shrugger right here.

So glad to influence with my volume

Those are some heavy shrugs, ear-scratching traps are in your near future.

Haha thanks, but I’d much rather settle for a world record DL or squat or bench. Actually I’d settle for even half of any of those world records.

I can hardly wait

Cycle 2, Week 2, Day 2
Tuesday 3/22/11

Bench press
somexsomex135
3x160
3x185
3x205
3x2x215
2x225
1x255 (ties PR, this MUCH easier)
missx275 (at least put up a better fight this time)

Bleh, brain fart. Just realized that in the vid set 2 and 3 are the same, I didn’t put one set in and replaced it with one already in the vid.

Floor press
5x135
5x185
5x205
5x225
5x205
5x185
5x135

Band pull aparts
Lots and lots staggered w/ pressing

Decided to up the weight up instead of just doing 6x2x215. Just felt good going into the session. Was hoping to nail 275 after 255 feeling a lot easier. I guess I’m happy that I at least put up some semblance of a fight w/ 275. Once again I struggled right off the chest. So Fridays I’ll be hammering the back w/ lots and lots of DB rows and on Wednesday I’ll do some DB flat presses. Probably could have gotten 265, but I’ll save getting a PR and just keep on putting in work to get at least 275.

Nice tied PR, I always make note of how much easier a lift got. It’s progress.

I finally did floor pressing today as well.

We did a workout together… in spirit lol

Yeah progress is progress  I still need to compare the two videos.

Haha cool. Yay for spirit workouts lol.

Cycle 2, Week 2, Day 3
Wednesday 3/23/11

Front squat
somexsomex135
3x160
3x185
3x205
6x2x215
3x5x185

DB bench press (now that I look at it I did a lot of DB pressing lol)
10x50
10x60
10x70
10x50
10x70
10x50
10x60
10x70
10x60
10x50

Pull ups
A bunch staggered w/ FSing and pressing

Decent session. Will be sticking with FS for at least a month or two more. Still get a little pain in the adductors of my right leg as I lock the weight out. I just need to make it a point to point my toes in a little more inward and it seems to help.

At first the DB pressing was awkward, but after a few sets got a better feel for them. I just need to keep on doing them and get used to them. Hopefully in tandem with lots of DB rows, my off the chest strength will improve.

My order for a second EFS average band came in today, as I was opening it I thought it looked a bit longer than the one I already have. Lo and behold it was, by about an inch. Soooo I guess I won’t be doing reverse band bench presses with two bands lol. Regardless, I wasn’t on planning on doing reverse band bench pressing too much in the near future. Besides doing it with just one band was perfectly fine

Do something off day
Some mountain climbers, goblet squats, glutes bridges, band hamstring curls, and band pull aparts.

I also did a new exercise in place of planks called foam roller supine torso holds. It a pretty kick ass core exercise and can be seen here:

On a side note, I emailed EFS this morning about my band problem, and they pretty much were awesome and are shipping me another free band  EFS rocks.

Amazing you didn’t notice that while you were doing it lol
It’s easy to do a lot of sets when we’re doing an exercise we love. When I hate the exercise, I’m like “Ugh, is that the last set yet? Oh, it was just the first one”

I hate doing what I hate

Good news about the EFS band, glad you got it worked out.

Amazing indeed. I guess I was caught up in doing a new-ish exercise.

I thought you DB pressed before?

I have, but only like once or twice.

Holy hell that’s a lot of DB pressing lol. Up the weight and lower the reps. You trying to do cardio? Lol jk

Lol, I didn’t want to push it. It sort of doubled as a feeder session since the day before I benched. But now that I have a feel for it, I’ll definitely up the weight
