A Strong Squat, Brutal Bench Press, Dauntless Deadlift, and Massive Military press are as easy as 5/3/1

I need to make it a point to foam roll more frequently, on top of my usual stretching. Foam rolling my IT band hurt so good haha. Doing so should help with my squat mobility and what not.

Wow wow WOW!
Wicked new 1RMs.

I can’t wait to see how the squatting goes.

Lol when you said “Mac user”, for some reason I thought of a Big Mac.
Well that just says a lot right there =D

Why thank you

I’m looking forward to squatting come Wednesday, although I may get a bit too anxious and squat on Tuesday. But then I wouldn’t know what to do Wednesday in the PL room.

Lol, you must be hankering for some greasy goodness.

Nice benching! It does look like you bring the bar down really low on your chest though, like almost over your abs.
Thanks man! I’ve got to catch up to you though

I’m pretty sure I don’t bring the bar down that low. Maybe it’s the camera angle. I have noticed that I press in a looping pattern. Not quite in a straight line. Then again it may be the camera angle. Either way, I have things to work on to keep me busy :)
As long as it feels right to you it should be fine.

Haha sorry but I am not going to let you catch up to me.

It should be fine, but I’m not convinced that my technique is anywhere near decent.

Hey, a guy can try.

I find Sketcher’s Shape Ups to be absolutely idiotic and useless but…

I’d get myself a pair or two if they’d give me a chance with Ms. Kardashian.

She looks hawt, but hate the message =)

Haha my thoughts exactly.

Tuesday 2/8/11

Attempted to do some squats, but wasn’t really feeling it.

Push press
some x some x bar
3x3x95
1x3x115
1x3x125
1x1x135
1x1x145
1x1x155
1x1x165
1x1x175
1x1x185
1x0x195
1x1x195 (grinder)
1x0x200 (felt heavy, didn’t even bother pressing it after unracking it)
1x1x200 (felt much lighter when I unracked it, was a relatively easy rep)
1x0x205

Pull ups
Mechanical drop set (AMRAPxWide grip, AMRAPxRegular grip, AMRAPxNarrow grip)

Overall pretty happy with today’s session. I was initially aiming to get 185, but that was pretty easy so I kept on going. Pretty happy with 200, but 205 would’ve been nice.

I decided to test out my push press instead of military press because I read today’s article by Pendlay and CT’s training lab spill mentioning push presses. Military pressing is fun, but push pressing is even more so

WOW! What a fight for 195! Haha, very solid work man. 200 is a pretty nice milestone for an OH press

Quite an ugly one haha. Thanks man, I’m pretty stoked to have a BW push press give or take a few pounds. Hopefully a few months of push pressing will get me to a BW strict press.

I’m not really into taking my measurements and the like. I usually just do the mirror test and check my weight. But I figure I might as well take a few minutes each month and measure my belly as per http://tnation.T-Nation.com/free_online_forum/diet_blog_hammer_velocity_shugart/the_story_of_the_3_numbers

That way, on top of the mirror test, I can get a better idea if any future weight I gain/lose is muscle/fat.

Awesome push presses! That’s a lot of weight on your shoulders.
Makes me want to do them now

I read that post by Chris this morning and took my measurements lol. Might do that every couple weeks during my contest

Why thank you  Push presses are awesome haha. They are most certainly worth a try.

I was going to do it as soon as I finished reading it, but I had a hearty dinner so I figured I should probably wait until I wake up tomorrow morning.

I always enjoy Chris’s post in Shurgart’s Hammer.

Nice work man. VERY impressive push presses! Keep it up

Thank you very much  I will most certainly do so.

Nice pressing man! I have never really done any push pressing before but that got me pumped for some. Depends a lot more on technique than a strict press though which could annoy me being that one day you could be much stronger than another just because of technique.

I appreciate it

Well the technique is pretty straight forward. Just like any lift, the better technique the more you’ll be able to lift. Although you’ll still have to get stronger as well. I’d give it a try and see how you like it.

Wednesday 2/9/11

Front squats
Worked up to a few singles with 245

Pull ups
some x some x BW

DB rows
some x some x 80

Pull ups and DB rows were super-setted.

After this morning’s lab, I was considering not training today. I guess lab just stresses me out. But after some calm and cool discourse with myself, I realized that I’m just blowing things out of proportion. In the end I was happy that I trained today because front squats feel A LOT more natural/better than back squats. At least compared to the last few times I’ve done back squats. Lately back squats have just been feeling really off. Hopefully my FS technique is decent. I’ll have to get used to using a clean grip when I FS. I tried the crossed arm technique, but I prefer the clean grip even though it takes a slight toll on the wrists.
