JB, I had read someplace that despite W’s aww shucks persona he was a very cunning person and able to read and manipulate very well. Any thoughts on that statement?

My meetings with Bush II have been pretty short, less than 10 minutes. I’ve met most of the recent presidents (including Obama) and candidates because they tend to come to my firm and various groups I am in looking for money.

Bush II is no dummy, just a really bad public speaker.

He remembered my name and a bit about my family (e.g., my first wife having been killed) and it had been 5-6 years since we had met. He seemed pretty sharp and also genuine. No idea if he has a good memory or some aid who takes notes for him and tells him who is who and what is what before meetings.

Is this manipulative? Or just really strong people skills?

I guess it depends on how he uses his skills.
You don’t get to that level without having those skills. It’s not a knock on Bush or any president, it’s just a requirement for the job.

I would say good people skills.

Let’s pretend for a moment that Arnold could run for president. Let’s also pretend he was running on a platform of something unquestionably immoral, such as deporting everyone with a BMI over 30 to Canada and legalizing exploitative child labor. How much of the T-Nation vote would he still manage to pull?

“Well, he does support some reprehensible policies… but man, does he still look JACKED or what?”

I say 60%.
Well, a lot of people here probably have a BMI over 30, actually. BMI of 30 is:
5’0": 153lbs
5’2": 164lbs
5’4": 175lbs
5’6": 186lbs
5’8": 197lbs
5’10": 209lbs
6’0": 221lbs
6’2": 234lbs

It’s trite, but Bush is someone i’d have a beer with and shoot the shit about sports while playing some billiards.

Obamoa would probably order a chardonnay and be texting the whole time.

I always liked George Dubya

Bush2 was a dumb-ass, but NOBODY could have dodged shoes better than he.
He even came up smiling!

Seems to me Reagan was a fit guy all his life, he was a lifeguard and credited with saving 77 lives, was a member of the football team, captain of the swim team, served in the Army and made Captain. He survived being shot at age 70, and worked on his ranch almost up to his death. He appears to have done more T-Man things in his life than most can even dream about.

I’ll tell you what, Bush two had a damn fine sense of humor. Keeping this purely nonpolitical (no policy), he was probably actually genuine about all his cowboy pursuits as well as his good sense of humor/people skills. He wzs famous for that among his staff as well. To echo another poster I would love to go drinking for a night with him–I think he would be fascinating to talk to and probably much more adept at explaining why he did the things he did.

You really couldn’t ask for a bigger more damaging Achilles heel than his utter inability to publicly speak.

I assume he got the questions in advance here and was able to prepare what he was going to say, plus some editing, but this interview kind of changed my opinion on his “complete idiocy”.

Still not a fan of his 8 years, outside of maybe a couple things, but I don’t think he was a moron I was lead to believe he was prior to this.

Thats why we need this guy

Ya ask the people of Minnesota they love him! /sarcasm

I can remember the day before the 1998 governor election. My dad is a conservative and always was an Arnold fan. He said (the day before ) that he would love to see ventura win, but he wouldnâ??t waste his vote on him since he thought he wouldnâ??t win.

The morning after the election I asked my dad if he was happy about venturas win, he said something like â??well, I dunno, lets actually see what he doesâ??.

He ended up hating ventura as the governor.

Careful what you wish for I suppose.

Politics in MN is something else man.

My moms favorite example is the presidential electoral map from 1980.

I don’t care what side of the political spectrum you were on or what the facts are…I’d say 75% of the people under age 30 that said they hated GWB and that he was the worst president ever were just making sure they sounded forward-thinking and smart.

It’s one of those things where they were most likely right…but they didn’t know why.

I think his girly man workout style says a lot about him.
