A New Animal: JDM135 for 1-2-3-4 plates

Noted. @T3hPwnisher @simo74 what about when you do rep work - say 8+ reps - do you wear a belt or not?

The only time I am beltless is early in my warm-ups.

That’s a good question mate. And my answer is both, I have sessions or movements where I don’t wear a belt. Like SSB at the moment is beltless, but that to specifically work on my bracing and lower back in the squat. My last block of trap bar deadlifts were done beltless. On conventional deadlift I keep the belt on because I am practicing the lift with every rep and I feel this also allows me to use more weight

1/31 pm session
Finished this morning’s work. 1x12x260lb deadlift, with the belt low. It was… unpleasant. A bit looser might have been better.
Finisher involved zercher squats, which I’ve never tried.

Every squat or deadlift session I do is unpleasant …LOL

2/1/22 Tuesday
The minimalist wave 2 week 4 day 2
Push press. Top set 3x160.
Pullups top set 3x+45
Did the main work and volume work, ran out of time and owe the finisher this evening.
@alex_uk this is what I’m talking about- when your program is called “minimalist” and you can’t even get time to do that.

Haha for sure, glad to see you still getting stuff done though, doing something even if it’s not “enough” or optimal will at least keep you from regression, I tend to overload and ditch everything and regress massively! I’m trying to get my prioritisation right, if I can tweak stuff so I’m in bed earlier and get up earlier I should be able to fit training in!

The minimalist wave 2 week 4 day 3, squats

Pause squats. Up to 4x205 with a pause at the bottom.
Then 13x165, 7x165. Lots of situps and burpees too. Finished with EMOM 3x135 front squats 10 rounds.

2/4 Friday
The Minimalist Wave 2 Wek 4 Day 4, Bench Press
Up to 2x215, and 225x1
Same with barbell rows.
Then volume work at 175.
The program didn’t call for the singles, but I wanted to hit 1x225 at home with no spotters to prove I can.

Elbows look really shaky. Also my rack sucks, the scariest part of benching or squatting at home is re-racking the weight.

Finisher was 10 minute EMOM which included pullups, pushups, and bench dips. I wasn’t strong or conditioned enough to keep up with the RX but I did what I could.

And on that note: I’m going to “Program-Hop” now. It’s been 4 great weeks on Alsruhe’s Minimalist, which is a great program and I truly feel like I could run essentially that program (or its spirit) forever. BUT! and there’s always a but.
My goal at the moment is a 315 squat. Progressing my press and bench is not my goal. Even with this minimalist template, it has been very challenging from a “life” standpoint to get all the sessions in. And the autoregulatory nature of this program allows me, for better or worse, to not really push the weights as, perhaps, I should (on squats). So I think the following is better suited to my goals and circumstances at this moment:
Monday: Light squats at home.
Tuesday: any push and any pull. At gym or home, as needed. Try to rotate strict, push, and bench. Pulls will include pullups, rows, power cleans.
Thursday: Heavy squats at gym.
Weekend: Sandbag work; conditioning (to include running).

Regarding what to do on the light and heavy squat days, I’ve asked a formerly competitive powerlifter at my gym to suggest a progression. I expect it to be similar to progressions that have been discussed here. I intend to do what he says. Will update!

JDM’s stupid simple program w1 d1

I had a whole thing planned but due to family circumstances I had about 15 minutes for my lifting. I did the bare essentials.

JSSP W1D2
Clean-and-press 3x135, 3x150, 3x165
Power clean: 1x185, then failed subsequent attempts, so:
3x3x165
Rows: 3x3x185 I think.

Intend to get 10x10 hanging knee raises at the office today.

I’ve suddenly gotten fat. Simple fact of the matter is, I haven’t been waking the baby in this weather, haven’t taken any runs at all, and have been snacking in the evenings watching The Witcher with my wife. Up a few (less than 10) lbs and it’s all around the spare-tire area. Will fix this.

Having 165 overhead just feels right. The “push” gets it above my head, but the last few inches are shoulders and triceps and courage. (With technique practice, I can probably get more out of the push; but I’m just glad I can grind the last part of the movement as it is.)

I like how everybody is naming their personal programs these days

2/20 Thursday: JSSP week 1 day 3
Squats:
8x135, 8x185, 8x225, 8x225, 8x225. Those sets were miserable.
Superset 5x3x100lb DB rows

Cable pec thingys, 3x8

Finisher:
60lb DB
30 C&P each arm
40 goblet squats
Took just over 10 minutes, couldn’t keep up with the EMOM, but the plan was like this each minute:

  1. 10 goblet squats
  2. 5 C&P each arm
  3. 5 C&P each arm
  4. 10 goblet squats
And so on in that manner, for 10 minutes.

One more session this week, will involve the sandbag and minimum 1 mile run.

My usual with a total of 10 over shoulder, 2 shoulder carries, 10 total burpees.
It was miserable by the way. The run wasn’t, the bag was.
