A New Animal: JDM135 for 1-2-3-4 plates

You’re allowed to brag about things you’ve worked hard for my dude.

LOL humiliation time:
GRACE in about 8:09, 135lb barbell.

Holy crap. That was my first time doing it but I just assumed I’d be better - turns out I’m worse than “beginner” per the WODWELL guidelines!
But it’s a great benchmark to hopefully beat multiple times in 2022.
I learned some things:
a) I’ve not done much volume with 135 overhead - just doubles and singles - so this weight didn’t “feel light” like it should.
b) the “jerk” part really helps. Toward the end, of necessity, I started dipping to catch with my arms fully extended, and that helped a lot.
c) as noted many times in the past couple weeks, my conditioning must improve. Which is why I tried this today.

Grace is an eye opener. It never gets better either, haha. Good on you for taking it on.

Thanks Pwn. Doing it gives me an even greater appreciation for your incredible performances.
It may not get easier, but I guarantee my time will get better!

12/27 Monday

Some post-Christmas purchases to set up the new year. Running shoes and a pair of 45s.
This brings me to 370lb at home, enough to train my DL for a while on the way to 405 and reduce the need for gym trips.

‐-----------
Speaking of gym trips. Kept the same BBB structure as last week but switched deads and squats:

Deadlift
5x195
5x225
10x255*

SS 3x20 hanging knee raise

Squats 5x10x160
SS Bench 5x10x135

Kept all rest short and this was pretty tough.

*forgot to go for 10 on the final set, stood up after 5 and realized my error. Regripped and finished the set but damn.

Closed out with DB C&P, top attempt at 95lb, got the right and failed the left this time:

12/28, Tuesday.
Woke up super early and put my shoes on for a run.
Nope, baby woke up.

1.1 mile walk with baby.
Then, while watching baby,
3x20 belt squats with 50lb (never done this before, feels like I’m doing it wrong?)
Rows
Ab rollouts
Random cheesy dumbbell stuff.

After breakfast:

In 7:43

Then, without dropping bag:
5 squats, bear hug down driveway, 5 squats, bear hug up driveway.

Awesome. I made the best out of my morning.
Then I fed 2 of the other kids breakfast and watched them draw and color like little angels.

How old is your baby ? Have you considered a running pram. My daughter used to like going for runs with me when she was little.

7 months and we have a running pram (jogging stroller US). Thanks. But he tends toward being cranky and 90% of the time I have to carry him anyway.

12/29/2021, Wednesday.
Awful sleep last night, baby kept us both awake.

Squats: temporary 5/3/1
3x185
3x200
10x225 - and that was really hard. After the 3rd rep, every one required a lot of breaths. No belt, which may have made it worse.

Superset with 4x3 pullups

Deadlift 5x10@195lb
Superset with
Press 5x10@75lb

This was done with very little rest, left me sweating hard. None of the sets were taxing strength-wise.

DB C&P: 1 each side at 70, 80, 90, 100 (PR). Failed the left arm on 100lb. Got it on video:

Enough.

Mate when you are running you can’t hear that shit anyway. And the noise warns people to get out of the way like a siren. Mine used to cry herself to sleep. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

That reminds me of last time we went to Centre Parcs with the sprogs and rented a couple of the bikes with kids seats on. Both of the kids cried so much in them they threw up so me and the brother in law ended up using the kiddy seats for beer.

Those 1 armed Cs and Ps sound fairly intimidating at 100 freaking pounds, do not want.

This time off has been great for daily exercise.
Pre-dawn: 1.1 mile with my baby, took @simo74 's suggestion to heart and put him in the jogging stroller (Running Pram commonwealth) this time. Walked the first quarter while drinking my coffee, then jogged the rest of the way.

Later:
“Baby Juan” with 150lb sandbag.
EMOM:
1 burpee to sandbag;
1 throw over shoulder;
pick and bear hug carry down driveway (50-60ft).’
*Juan is an Alsruhe session wherein you do 3 burpees and 3 throws over shoulder. Juan Jr would be 2. I’m starting at 1.
I did 5 rounds. The 6th minute began before I finished the 5th carry. I was destroyed!

Carried bag back, took about 2 minutes to rest, then did this:

2 minutes: carry as far as possible.
1 minute rest.
Carry back in less than 2 minutes.
I made it with seconds to spare. Unsure what my total distance out was.
*This is another “baby” version of an Alsruhe challenge. I think he calls for 8 minutes. I’d like to work my way up to that range.

2 minutes rest, then:
Attempted to find some way to push-press the bag. Failed. What I did would be best described as “groping” and it did not look good LOL. I could carry that visual further but will leave it for @Cyrrex to improve upon.

Great sweaty session. By the way it’s 70F here still, and that’s down from 80f the past several days. First possible freeze of the season coming in a few days.

Edit to add. Watching those Alsruhe videos, I noticed 2 things.
One, his throws over shoulder are actually THROWS. Mine are weak-ass drops in a kinda-behind-me direction. Sometimes more sideways.
Two, his bags are TIGHT. Mine defies tightening still; I’ve only used duct tape, perhaps some industrial sized zipties and/or hose clamps would do it. Must keep trying.

Nice work. I’ve also watched some of Brian’s videos on sandbags and have been meaning to try one of the workouts.

Go for it! They are… brutal.
The bag offers a lot of variety but I definitely benefit from his videos for inspiration on what to try.

I’m kind of hesitant to open my bag and see how much my makeshift filler bags broke

I redid my bag closure. This time I used a hose clamp, then taped over it to prevent getting lacerated.
I’m concerned the clamp will cut thru the bag eventually. But for now it should do!
