A New Animal: JDM135 for 1-2-3-4 plates

Not necessarily. You aren’t comparing apples to apples here because of the variable rest times.

Also, I count:
Week 1: 10 reps at 285
Week 2: 10 reps at 285

No regression.

Keep babying it!!! Good job on DLs man, like dagill said I don’t think that’s regression.

Jogged 2.1 miles, about 20:07. Nice and easy, breaths are slow (about every 4 steps in/4 steps out). Plan is to go 1 mile tomorrow, then 2 again on Thursday.

DOMS update: Awesome. I’m sore in lots of places, including “lower abs” - I feel it if I take a deep belly breath. I assume this is from bracing during the front squats. Lower back is sore too, which is pretty unpleasant, but hopefully the jog will help loosen everything up.

@boilerman @dagill2 thanks for the encouragement, I appreciate it! I intend to keep the same weights on DL until reaching 285x10 in a single set, does that sound dumb?

Not to me, no. Sounds like standard double progression, should work well.

Sounds right on to me- as long as the reps increase over time you’re headed in a good direction man.

1.1 mile jog, 11:04.
Sooo sore. Particularly annoyingly in the lower back region.

Wasn’t trying to improve my time, I think a big part of it was that "The Middle " by Jimmy Eat World came on about a minute before the finish and I just flew. Anyone within a couple years of my age probably understands even if you don’t experience it the same way.

Still sore, but less so, in thighs.
Really looking forward to press tomorrow, the week feels so long with only 2 gym days.

I’ve been feeling the same way this week. 4 days straight of lifting fri-monday and the rest of the week open. It’s a weird feeling not lifting after work.

Love jimmy eat world!!

Love me some Jimmy as well, used to have a signed Welly boot by Jim (lined up to meet them at a festival and didn’t have anything else for them to sign haha).

When I run it’s always treadmill and even then when a good song comes on I have to ramp the speed up, usually end up regretting it by the end of the song!

PRESS

decided to keep weight the same until I hit 10x10. Turns out I performed worse than last week.
6 sets of 10;
9;
8;
6;
5.

That was disappointing. I am losing weight so that’s likely the reason but I was so close to 10x10 last week, and now it feels further away. once I get it, I’ll do 10 sets of 8 and progress the weight.

Then:
BSS 4x10, unweighted, superset with
Chest supported rows, 45#.

Tendonitis update: it’s bad again, started hurting Friday night. I wonder if its because of

Or if the few less-painful days were just an anomaly?

The rows were so light, and just a few, I thought they wouldn’t matter… but I’m not aware of any other changes. Oh well. If I was on a healing trajectory to begin with, this will only be a minor setback.

2/1/2021, Monday
DL:
135x10;
195x10;
245x10;
285x6;
285x5.

FRONT SQUAT
EMOM, 135#, 10 doubles; then the eleventh set was 20 reps at 55#.

Technically I’ve progressed DL from last week, getting 6+5 instead of 5+5. Considered adding weight to the FS but I was so sore last time, wanted to get one more week out of 135. A positive note is that 135 felt really light and the 55# 20-rep set felt as easy as if the bar wasn’t even there.
And the real way I’ve progressed this week: I now have 4 visible abs (if I squint), and my wife is commenting that I look skinny and should eat more. So even if weights aren’t going up I’m lifting them with less bodyfat, so it counts as a win IMO.

That’s a lot of twos.

2.1 mile jog, 19:04 - PR (since I started jogging a week ago lol).
Still easy. Progress seems to be so natural here, unlike weights. That’s probably the allure that draws people in to become cardio queens.

Elbow feels better - not healed of course, but the aggravation I felt the other day is gone, so I’m confident it was caused by rows. Good to know. But my biceps are melting!

Also: you’re more than 1 week into lifting weights, so progress is more difficult there.

Awesome work mate, enjoying watching the journey.

Doing Friday’s press session today, as I will be travelling early tomorrow.

PRESS
As always, goal 10x10 with 80lbs.
Took about four minutes rest between sets.
I got:
5 sets of 10 80lbs;
1 set of 9 80lbs;
dropped to 75lbs,
2 sets of 10, last rep was barely there so dropped to 70lbs,
1 set of 10,
1 set of 9 with failure on the 10th rep about 3" below lockout.

BSS
Bodyweight BSS, 5 sets of 10, supersetted with the first 10 sets of press.

SITUPS
3x20, first set at super-high decline and lowering each set.
Because I’m going to the beach this weekend and my bodyfat is getting low enough that situps might make a difference haha.

I’m just going to not be upset about lack of progress on press right now, because I’m losing weight and I know that’s antithetical to building a stronger press.
I did hope that I could beat the press into submission by hammering away 10x10 but amazingly, my body has not adapted to the stimulus. Whatever.
Maybe I’ll go ahead and drop to sets of 8 anyway… because at the rate I’m going I’ll have a worse press every week!

Sounds like deepwater!!!

I can’t imagine doing it while actively trying to lose weight, but good session man

That’s exactly why I started trying 10x10 press weeks ago. I’m unable/unwilling/tendonitis/excuses to commit to DW but figured maybe I could benefit from that piece.
Meanwhile you don’t miss a rep and you’re 10x10 pressing what, 90lbs? Great stuff.

It sounds like a very good plan, man. Focus on the lifts you care about, don’t aggravate the tendonitis and lose some lbs.

Thanks man. I’m also eating like crazy which helps. Way more focused on diet than ever before. I’d definitely suggest giving it a fair shot when you’re in a happier place body comp and tendon wise… it’s been a humbling and wild experience so far.

DL:
135x10;
195x10;
245x10;
285x4;
285x3;
285x3.

FRONT SQUAT
EMOM, 145#, 10 doubles; then the eleventh set was 20 reps at 65#.

Deads continue to regress. Strange. I thought if I do something every week it would eventually get easier, not harder. It’s not like I’m losing tons of weight either - 4-6lbs down since 1/1.
Progressed the FS though and that felt good. It was hard, but I got every rep. And the 20 reps at the end still felt easy.
