A great Idea!
Of note: the barfing continued.
Close to bedtime now and i think everyone is on the mend, let’s hope.
WRONG!
Just after bedtime, almost asleep. 8 year old barfs on his pillow. Second night in a row. We get him cleaned up, I hose off his sheet, pillow, blanket, and do my best for the mattress, put him to bed with his brother on the other mattress.
Back in bed, not even asleep yet, there goes his brother (6) - same thing. Huge pool of vomit, all over his pillow, sheet, blanket…
Both mattresses now ruined for the night, we end up putting them in the living room. I’m hosing the barf out of bedding and running laundry, and on top of all this, the baby is awake - both from all the chaos, and because he’s sick too!
So another night gone with minimal sleep. We’re dragging today.
BUT you HAVE FIVE MINUTES as someone here would say.
Tossed the 100lb bag over my shoulder 20 times, took me 3:07. Also over 2 miles of walking already today, like most days.
The bag toss is pretty cool - really explosive - I’m thinking the next play is to do 5 minutes solid of tossing, see what my number is, and watch it climb over time.
Squatted 315.
After all that family stress???
Great job!!!
Congrats! Well-deserved.
10/10/22
Monday.
My job will be placing unusual demands on my time soon, and I’m almost guaranteed to miss the gym next Monday, so I decided today is the day. If I don’t get it now it could be weeks. Otherwise I’d have wanted to tag 295 or 305 a few more times and build confidence, but here we are.
Squat:
Bar x 5
95 x 5
135 x 5
165 x 5
195 x 5
235 x 3
265 x 1
295 x 1 - this one was fine
315 x 1 - Lifetime PR, log title goal #3
295 x 1
275 x 1
265 x 1
245 x 1
A bit later, at the office:
20 pullups, underhand grip, in one set.
No video. But depth was good: in that rack the mirror provides a landmark, if I can see my shorts underneath the crosspiece in the mirror I know I’m at depth.
Went all the way down, knees came together, probably looked like a baby deer trying to take his first step, torso was way forward, but I got up. Felt really, really good.
Had made myself a deal: if I got the rep I don’t have to do the 3x8 volume.
Oh should add:
All that, and barely sleeping once again last night. Thank you @anna_5588 !
And thank you @Bagsy !
Re-read post #1 in this log and realized how GREAT I was doing up until baby #4. He was born in May 2021, and by August 2021 I think the increased burden of care/utter lack of sleep really affected my progress.
I’m proud of the progress I’ve made despite everything else, but I am definitely dad-bodded compared to the pic in that post.
Regardless! Having crossed off Goal #3 of the OH/Bench/Squat/Dead log title, the last one standing is deadlift. Maybe I’ll eat my words, but I don’t foresee this being nearly as difficult as the squat was. Squatting just seems to go against how my body is constructed, and deadlifting has always felt natural. I deadlifted 315 years back when I could barely squat 135, IIRC. (Way before this log lol!)
So I need to shift focus to deadlift strength, get a bit more comfortable with the squat while I’m at it, and within a few months at most I should be where I wanted to be strength-wise.
What else?
The sandbag is fun, and I definitely feel like a guy that can throw 200lb on his shoulder and take it for a walk is a thick dense dude who looks the part. So I like the idea of being that guy. I’m also fat enough not to have visible abs; being skinny isn’t a goal but trimming it back a wee bit probably smart.
Clean-and-pressing the 100lb DB is also a cool trick. I’ve done it with the right hand, I think, would love to revive that and get Lefty up to speed as well…
Rambling really. Gonna finish this week out, then probably be travelling Monday, and figure out a plan while on the plane.
10/11
Set a 5 minute timer, threw the 100lb bag over shoulder exactly 30 times. Absolutely sucking air at the end. Lot of room for work capacity growth.
Yes sir, well done.
10/12/22 Pressing and Shoulder BB day
Press:
3x4x115
3x8x95
Incline bench press:
3x8, 95,105,115
Standing Arnold press:
3x16x30lbs - The DB situation at my gym was a mess, really wanted to increase the load on these but went stupid high reps instead.
Rear delt flye, lateral raise, upright row - Giant set, no rest between the three. 3 sets, truly a miserable burn.
Afternoon: 5 min timer, 31 or maybe 32 throws of the 100lb bag over shoulder.
A kid came out at the end and my fear of maiming him made me lose count.
That is a really solid 5 mins of training. I had to re read this 3 times to make sure I had read it right. Quality
Thanks! I didn’t think it was confusing… but it is hard to get that many in 5 minutes.
I find i use 2 different techniques depending on how exhausted i am. Think ill get a video next time.
You’re damn right you did, you beautiful sonofabitch.

Made an aggressive 10-week plan for a 405 DL by the end of the year. Will see how it plays out. Here it is, Ebook to follow if it works LOL!
I Pulled 375 a few months ago. Haven’t deadlifted much this year.
-Every week, work up to a single. 1st week is 355 so week 10 (or 11…) is 405.
-Then, 3 or more sets of 6 or more reps, with difficulty.
-The goal of that work is to suffer enough to FORCE ADAPTATION (been reading way too much @T3hPwnisher content lately and paying the price now, see below.)
So, sets, reps, percentages not really specified, but I have a rough idea of a starting point, and the notion that on the last set, I need to KEEP GOING until it forces me to adapt, so I’m stronger the next week, repeat.
The plan for the rest of deadlift day was to be 3x8 squats, to take my medicine, then back stuff - pullups and rows, etc. Even biceps. LOL see below.
Deadlift session 1 of 10:
Worked up to single of 355. Wore belt, no straps.
2 x 8 x 255. Wore belt and straps. Decided both were holding me back, so took them off for the final set:
20 reps at 255. Didn’t see this coming. It felt like one of those deepwater portals; and I don’t typically train this way. Thought I’d get 10, then 12, then by rep 16 I was too close to quit and just went for it. COULD NOT open my left hand for 5 minutes after - had to put it in warm water and massage each finger open! Fingers are fine now, but thumb meat is damaged.
Tried to do the squats, was losing my balance and vision going blurry so I quit after one set. Did a couple weighted pullups with 45lb (two singles) on the way out the door but there was no way I was going to do “back and bi’s” after that. Just done.
Pretty confident that will spur adaptations for next week.
That was a fantastic read dude! You’re definitely doing what it takes to grow: now it’s time to eat!
Thanks @T3hPwnisher ! Thawed a 3lb roast this morning, unlike you I won’t eat it in one sitting LOL but it’s a good start…
Hey a couple comments, my favorite part of your Strongman comp video was your girl cheering you on. It was so cool how she was copying Mom’s cheer patterns.
And, I read what you said about being built for deadlifting and the bar barely clearing your kneecaps (an exaggeration, but still:) During that set I saw the bar going up to my balls and thought of that, but then I thought, if I’m not built for deadlifting, I must be built for squatting, and we all know THATs not true… So mentally I’m laughing during all this! Good times.
10/15 Saturday
Disc golf this morning, never played before, coolest part was hanging out with adults outside of work or home, which is rare for me.
Then: 32+ throws of 100lb bag over shoulder, for @simo74 , and got them in record time! On video just for you Simo.
That was fun so i also got a video of shouldering the 200, twice, and am much better at it than a couple weeks ago!
Enjoy
If you manage to count the reps on the first one let me know! I lost count, did extra and hopefully went over, not under, 32.
That looked like 4 mins of fun. And by fun I mean breath sucking hell!
Good work with the big bag too.
