A IT Guy

Just read your performance photos thread. Really impressive progress. Must take a tremendous amount of discipline.

Love the comment about 48 being old.

Thanks, I am ready to put some size back on though. You would be surprised how many people at work think I am dying of something…

Ya the 48 thing made me snicker…lol

Whats wrong with 48…lol. Too close to 50 for me so i am on a mission to get younger. I too dropped a lot of weight a few years back, sloppy/lazy 220er which made me a light 242. Cut back down to 181 where i originally started at in the early 80’s and am a solid 198er now which is where i should have stayed to begin with. Same thing at work, people would be like are you feeling ok, are you sick…like really sick? Congratulations on all your hard work and will be interesting to see where you end up when you start back into powerlifting.

Thanks German, How did you feel coming back to PL at such a drastic weight difference. I am almost afraid to find out how much strength I lost. Although I know my deadlift numbers are not that far off even 60 pounds lighter.

I came back with a whole different agenda at that time (second career at pl lol). But strength training was secondary and condo was first and primarily cardio. SO with that being said my strength was definitely down. I did find that once i got back to more balanced training. hiit type condo and a few months of actual heavy training it wasn’t too bad. Once i put some muscle back on all is good. looking back i would have done more strength stuff while losing weight but it was one of those moments in life when you look at yourself and say i have to make a major change now…so i did.

Hey Colin, just took a look at the pictures…Way to go, you put in some work. You can’t fully appreciate what you did, until you’ve done it yourself. I’ve always said, the gym is the easy part, walking around hungry for 12-16 weeks, that’s where the work is.

Coming off a diet like that, your strength will explode. You need to decide where you want to be weight wise, and just get strong there. You have done the hard part. Freakin awesome job!

Thanks Brother, I appreciate the encouragement. I would like to 220 at 10% BF long term. Right now I’m still adjusting to the change

Big Jim Wendler has solved my “What to do” problem for me! I am going to do 5/3/1 Boring but big challenge. It’s been a month since my cut and I am currently at 10.1% BF @197 and itching to get back into some heavy weight in my hands. I would love to get back to a 600 DL, 500 SQ, and 405 Bench while keeping my BF% around 10-14%. I also wanted to add some Overall size to my shoulders, quads and arms. This looks like Jim was talking directly to me when he wrote his recent article. So this week and into next I will establish my maxes and get ready for the next 3 months.

Today I went heavy DL and Maxed at 455 which was pretty easy actually and failed at 465. Considering I pulled 515 last April @ a body weight of 260 I thought I had held on to the majority of strength during my cut.

I am going to start using this log as a log going forward and we will see where I can go with this!

Nice work, you have held on to alot of strength. Pound for pound, I bet you end up being stronger than before!

Thanks Grey, at my meet in April of 2011 I pulled 515, Squatted 410, and benched 335 at a weight around 255’ish. I was really pleased with where my numbers are coming in at. Muscle memory is a funny thing. My Chest is about 4 inches lower than before. It’s almost like untrained territory with the increased ROM.

Alright I got my squat number and I am humbled.

Squat max was 320 this morning. I don’t know why it was so low, yeah I am coming off of a 6 month lay off from heavy squats. Yes, I am 60 pounds lighter and the mechanics feel completely different. Yet it pisses me off to no end…

I used to be a very low back squatter. I could use the belly to push out of the hole if you know what I mean. That just isn’t there anymore. So I am going to take this as an opportunity to move the bar up higher on my back and fix the form issues I used to be able to hide so well. Hopefully it will make me a better squatter in the end but in the meantime it is what it is. 320…bleh…

Bench - 320
Squat - 320
DL - 455
Mil Press - See ya Wed…

When I have dieted my squat always took the biggest hit. Not sure why, but that’s how its been. Comes back quick though.

Thanks Matt, allot of folks are telling me the same thing. Everything feels totally different for sure. I’m not worried too much about it. The love is in doing the training, the PR’s are the icing on the cake.

Awesome quote!

You know I had been in a rut for a long time with plateau’s and crap, and when I started thinking like that everything just kinda fell in line. And funnily enough, I started finally getting stronger again.

If it ain’t fun, why would we bother?

Looking forward to seeing your numebrs fly up.

Recovery/Metabolic day

A1 - Deficit Deadlifts with an overhand grip 5x10
A2 - Standing OH Press 5x10

Squats - Really taking the time to try and fix my form. Using very Conservative weights, going deep, really trying to keep strict form. Hell I am even warming up with just the bar for a couple of sets, lol. 5 or six warm up sets to get the form right then:

Week one - Work Out one
Set 1 195x5
Set 2 225x5
Set 3 255x10

A1) DL - 5x10@225
A2) Dead Hang Pull ups - 5x8

B1) Bar roll outs 3x10
B2) DB Curl’s 3x10
B3) Reverse Curl 3x10

nice work Colin

Thanks Pete, I really want to do it right this time. Put my ego in check and lift the weights correctly and the numbers will be what ever they will be. Ultimately I would like to be pushing some decent weight but I will be happy with looking good and feeling good for awhile…
