A Friendly Challenge - Battling Program ADD

Stick with it! Foooccuusss!

This is how I’m measuring progress:

Weeks 7, 8, 9 are the same sets and reps with more weight. I’ll keep going until I’m unable to say that and then I’ll probably just reset like 5/3/1 and start again.

Nice!

If you must test… SGSS followed the 3s phase with three weeks of 5/4/3/2/1. It probably wasn’t ā€œpeakingā€, but it allowed me to work up to a new 1RM on just about everything. If I get curious and need to do that then I’ll go back to the 8s phase afterwards and start again.

I’m the same! But it often backfired: I have a bad day, then decide my program (instead of lifestyle) sucks, and want to abandon everything.

Still plugging away with a full day template however some days need to focus on upper more as spin classes are rinsing the utter duck out of my legs :man_facepalming:

I’m shattered. Daughter is waking up every night and missus has a bit of post partum kicking in😢.

I think today is the day I pull the plug on beltless, sleeveless, high rep squats. Going to break out the sleeves and take 315 for a ride today. Maybe I’ll rep it out for 8-10 and still call it high reps.

I’m still training calves though so that’s all that really matters.

Don’t forget curls for upper body calves.

Funny you mention that, I keep telling myself to start doing curls but only get them in once every other week.

I’m telling myself farmers walks and pulls will take care of them for me

Yep, that’s high reps. My leg training stops at five reps now.

Mission accomplished, looks like I’m still in it

We are clearly from different planets…

I’m in the same boat as @loganator. I hate ā€œbodybuilding workā€.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t get why ppl enjoy the pump so much

The pump is fantastic. A bicep pump is the most masculating feeling I get in the gym.

My arms have always been a strong point (probably why my lats and chest are so small).

I trained them pretty consistently a few years back but don’t see the point anymore. I’m in the gym too long anyway to want to be there longer hitting arms. But when I set up a home gym next year… I’ll probably bro out and hit arms on my days off of the serious stuff.

ahh so there’s the difference

I hear you. My arms are my genetic gift. I don’t hate doing them (I like it), but they’re the first thing I skip if I’m going to skip something.

I’m also not that strong, so arms and shoulders are fun because I don’t feel bad about myself.

Fuck Deepwater.

There’s nothing better than a shoulder/bicep/tricep pump giant set. I feel like a giant afterwards. It’s only when the pump wears off so I realise I’m a very average looking man.

Sorry for the double post but there’s loads of great people on this thread so wanted some help.

So I’m 16 weeks into my bulk, I’ve gone from 93kg to 102kg (I’m 6’2 btw). I have also added about half an inch to my waist which isn’t good. My top abs only really show in great lighting now, but I’m filling out my t shirts and jeans much better now and am bigger overall which is good…

But

My original plan was to hit 110kg and then cut, I wanted to do this over a year and add quality mass but I’ve obviously made a few diet errors and have added some quality fat along the way so far. Half of me says carry on going as I’ve bulked and cut in short cycles before and never really got anywhere but then part of me looks in the mirror and thinks I look a little bit too unathletic now.

Would be greet to hear some advice. My goal is to get as big as a can naturally. I’m not naturally a lean person and settle around 14% body fat if I go back to normal diet etc. But I want to be bigger, I know there are limits to natural training etc but I’m no way near my limit for my height surely. Cheers all

I’ve made the mistake of bulking and cutting for almost a decade. If I could go back then I wouldn’t ā€œbulkā€. I would slowly gain weight over a longer period of time - like years.

Last year, I gained 30 lbs over 10 months. This year, I lost 40 lbs in five months. I’m not sure if I gained much muscle but I learned that I didn’t need to gain that much weight to add a few ounces of muscle.

I think you’ve gained too much (like you said). I would pump the brakes and maintain for a bit. If you want to cut then you can. If I were you then I’d change the time frame for your goal of 110 kg. I’d aim to gain about a pound or 0.5 kg per month. Slow it down. Think in terms of years. If you’re past the beginner stage then you’ll be lucky to build 0.5 lbs of muscle per month.

Don’t drive the scale up and then cut over and over. Just grow slowly.
