A Few Food + Training Questions

Hey guys,

I’m pretty new to working out. And although I’m not too crazy about it I’d like to get in shape.

Maybe just tone the body, and build some mass. Nothing over the top.

So I have a few questions.

I have began going to the gym 5 days a week. Is this ok for the muscles? I do about 45 minutes of upperbody exercises and I run for a mile. For the rest of the day I pretty much relax. So 23 hours of rest. Can this harm me in anyway or strain the muscles?

I sleep about 7 to 9 hours a day.

On the food side of things It’s not great, but also nto that bad.

I eat a chicken breast everyday after working out, followed by a salad composed of anything I can find around the house.

At night it’s not so much healthy, maybe pizza, soup, or something that I probably shouldn’t be eating.

My main question is, can you get toned and healthy if you don’t eat 100% right?

I’m going to stop by the store today and see what they have for protein bars or shakes, so I can take those after my workout.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mario

The real answers to your questions are a little more complex then one can whip off in a short post. Use Vroom’s link here and do what many before you have done and read the links provided. That way you will be educated in this area and be able to make gains versus spinning your wheels.

Do you only do upper body?
24 hours is not enough rest, you should have 48 hours.

You dont need to eat 100% healthy but if you have pizza every night then its no where near. And you can get toned but it will take a lot longer than otherwise.

You are better off doing a Chad Waterbury workout 3 times a week, and cardio the other 2 days. Search for him, I recommend Total Body Training.

Running for a mile is not enough training for your lower body. You will look dumb with little twig legs. Start doing lower body weighted exercises

What the hell kind of advice are we giving newbies now?

Listen to what D said. Educate yourself on what it takes. You’ve found the right place, you just need to do the work now.
