I guess I’m just surprised that such light weights are killing me. I don’t know if my body is still recovering or if it really is this hard with so much higher volume.

I’d like to say you just suck and the high volume is that much harder, but I saw the condition the Niagara guys were in today. El Presidente squatted and pulled up to 2 plates only and Hong Kong’s strongest did a set of squats at 135, benched what I was doing up to 1 set of 95 and then attempted to pull 275 + chains cuz that’s what the Stallion and another kid were doing and he made the most horrendous painful sound ever hahaha.

PS. The mission is underway hahahaha

That makes me feel better. I’ll probably be better next week. Any time I’ve gone to high volume after low volume/high weight it’s killed me.

Hmmmm the stallion. He is a sweet cutie isn’t he. For some reason, he brings out the mother in me.

You’re more than welcome.

Going from LV/HI to HV/LI can be harsh. You’re body, particularly your CNS is not used to the Time Under Tension. It’s definitely a good shock to your body which should help you grow a little.

I hope you’re still eating like a fiend. Your body will love you for it.

I have been eating more but then I’ve been really hungry all week. My girls are pissed that I ate all the ice cream.

I think next week I’ll head over to Costco and pick up a bunch of chicken and start taking some to work. I get pretty lazy about eating.

I don’t know if you’re heading over tomorrow but I’ll be there shortly after lunch.

I’m a big eater but over here the food will make you fatter than anything so I use a lot of protein shakes and I eat the Metabolic Drive bars too.

and going from hv to lowv or lv to hv is rough period.

Are you military?

I need to think more about what I eat. Generally speaking I eat well, just not enough probably. I’m lazy in that I don’t care to expend any mental energy on thinking about it. Once I find something I like, I’ll eat the same thing every day (for breakfast and lunch) for months or years. Dinner gets switched up. I’ve eaten oatmeal with frozen fruit and protein powder every morning since last September.

I plan an awful lot of my life on automatic pilot.

Contractor.

We are very similar in that regard.

Sunday April 12

5 minutes on elliptical and 5 minutes stretching and mobility.

Bulgarian split squat
I used only 20lb dumb bells and really focused on staying upright, keeping my back tight and squeezing at the top of each rep. I also had a pretty wide stance and lost my balance a couple of times.

2x12
2x9
1x6

Cheerleader push press super set with seated dumb bell cleans

CLPP - most of these were done strict press so to push press next time, I’ll move the weight up
20x4x10

SDBC
20x4x10

no rest between press and clean. 2 minutes between sets. I didn’t realise until later that I was supposed to rest between presses and cleans for a minute or so. My reading comprehension sucks.

Super set: Dips/Skulls/push ups

Dips: 3x6

Actually the second two sets were more like 5 1/2 and I started shaking like a chihuahua on speed.

Skulls
30x3x12

Easy. I’ll move the weight up next time maybe.

Push ups:
1x10
1x8
1x6

Ddot had down to do 3 sets of 24 triangle pushups. I love his confidence.

Before I went to the gym, I got an idea from Diana to test my broad jump. I hadn’t done that since I was in junior high school. I did three attempts and got 5’ 10", 6’7" and 5’8" (this one just fell apart). I did them in my dining room on a wood floor in bare feet so every joint in my body hurts now from the landing impact.

Also, last night, I did some desperate ‘foam’ rolling using my marble rolling pin. I ran my ass and hamstrings over it on the living room floor. I think it helped.

Nice work. Were the Bulgarian Split Squats a fall on your ass experience?

You aren’t in Jr High anymore, you have to warm up for that shit.

Yes I almost fell on my ass more than once. I didn’t find them as taxing as the lunges but I used a marginally lighter weight. Next time I may go a bit heavier.

I appreciate having my age pointed out. That totally rocks

The funny thing is that my butt and legs already feel bigger and tighter just from changing things up. Of course it may be the ice cream overload I’ve been experiencing. I went through the same thing a couple of months ago when I did higher volume squats and deads for conditioning.

I’d be arrested for flirting with a Jr. High girl so I find it better that you are older! ;0

Yep, I think it is a good thing to add high rep work into every session. I especially thing that single leg work is important after squats and deads. Being that I’m beat the fuck up this is the only way I’ll be able to continue to get stronger and I always held myself back in the past by not getting big enough. That hypertrophy work adds muscle and helps the tendons and ligaments to heal, gets more blood to the muscles and gets them to heal better too. A bigger muscle is a stronger muscle.

I’m glad it is working for you.

I’m hoping I’ll have a back wide enough to pull a house at some point.

At the moment, though, I’m not doing anything heavy. It’s more of a recovery phase. I think I’ll do it for 3-4 weeks but I think I’ll find it tough because my draw is to the big lifts.

How did you get so beat up? You aren’t that old are you?

I hear you it has been tough not doing the big lifts and although my numbers are dismal it is nice to get some weight on the back.

Geeze, nope early 30’s. Football, bad car wreck, too high of a training volume at too high of a percentage. Yada yada yada…

Tuesday April 14 GL Burlington

Warm up elliptical 5 minutes

Stretching and mobility for 5-10 minutes

Leg Press
This was a new one for me. I finally figured out how it worked. I’m like the slow kid in class.

Close stance leg press superset with wide stance leg press. No break between close and wide. 2 minutes between sets.

180lbs+sled (2 45s on each side)
10xcl/10xwide

160 lbs + sled
10xcl/7xwide

140 lbs + sled
10xcl/9xwide

140 lbs + sled
10xcl/7+3xwide

For some reason the hardest part was that my feet kept cramping in agony.

Pull ups super set with seated close grip row
Pull ups
1x10
1x7
1x4
1x4

CG row
60x4x10

No break between pull up and row with 2 minutes between sets.

Close grip pull downs superset with incline db curls. Most sets the incline benches were occupied so I did other db curls

CG pull downs
80x1x12
70x3x12

DB curls
15lbsx1x12

hammer curls
15x1x12

incline db curls
15x1x12

hammer db curls
17.5x1x12

This was the fourth day of my ‘rest’ cycle so I’ll start over again on Thursday. I’ve got to say, I’ve found it pretty humbling. I’m going to do this for at least one more rotation.

I’ve ordered a copy of Maximum strength and will be starting that in the next couple of weeks if this volume doesn’t kill me.

I just ordered some Yohimburn es on line. When I get it I’ll keep everyone updated on the state of my ass. It’ll be an interesting experiment.

Nice last few workouts.
I read the cressey book -maximum strength
at a book store I should have bought it.
I want to read how you do.

Bulgarians splits are one of my favorites-
I have been trainng with out a rack unil this past week, for a YEAR, yes a low point
but it made the BSS a staple.

I am avidly following the state of your ass.

The last few work outs have been kindly provided by Ddot76 who, no doubt, is getting sick of all my questions.

Having spent the last year or so training power lifting I thought I was pretty hard or getting there but these workouts have kicked my ass.

I’m looking forward to the rest provided by some heavy squats at lower volume but I think I’ll be keeping quite a bit of this in the assistance rotation.

I think I like the GHRs and snatch grip deads the best. I think I hate the leg press the most.
