A Cheerful Misanthrope

None other than Hong Kong’s Strongest Athlete  He cried like a baby.

I will likely head down again after Nationals. I don’t want to intrude on everyone gearing up for meets

Want to go to Cambridge next weekend for a bit and watch Nello and Matt lift? Not sure who else is going to be lifting.

Saturday, March 14, St. Catharines

Squat
45x10
95x5
135x5
155x3
185x2 suit on straps down
215x2 suit on straps up
240x1 "

Bench
45x10
65x5
100x2
135x1
125x1
140x1
145x0

Fail again on 145. I felt kind of weak this week particularly on bench. I’m taking a 6 day bench break to let my shoulder feel not quite so fucked up.

There were a ton of people out today. Two guys were prepping for the Cambridge meet next Saturday. Court, by the way, I won’t be able to go but both Karen and Althea are likely going to be there.

There were a few people out that I only knew by reputation so it was great to train with them. The entire atmosphere was upbeat and a total laugh. I think every guy there had a hand in my shirt. Help from really experienced lifters is great. Plus I got felt up which was nice too.

Of course, I left my belt there so I have to drive out to one guys house an hour away to pick it up. I swear my brain is dead.

So yesterday morning I drove all the way back to St. Catharines to pick up my traveling belt. It was all good though. It was with the guy that’s helping me train for nationals. I got to see his new digs and hung out for a while and gossiped and talked training.

In the evening, I practiced wrapping my knees with my new THPs and my puller thing. I’ve only used the new wraps for 3 lifts and they were wrapped by someone else. I won’t be using them again before the meet so in my true anal retentive style, I prepared to use them

Monday March 16, Goodlife Burlington

Squat
45x10
95x5
135x5

I thought I’d try this as warm up to deadlift. I’m not sure if it made any difference or not. I do know that I’m now having pain in my left inner thigh on squats. All my pain is on my left side.

Deadlift
135x5
175x3
205x2
235x5x3 (suit on straps up)

I’m still futzing around with position. I’ve pretty much settled, for the time being, on feet and lower legs just outside the rings. Now I’m playing with foot position. I think I had my feet turned too far out and maybe that’s where I’m getting the inner thigh pulling. I may ask my chiropractor when I go on Wednesday. I just want him to touch my inner thighs. I keep shifting and can’t seem to figure it out. I’m sure I look like a total tool bent over with no bar simulating a dead lift shifting the direction of my toes.

I bought a new pair of deadlifting shoes at Payless after the gym today. They are bright red and lace up. They have rubber soles with no padding. They should be perfect. I tried sumo with the dance slippers but they keep sliding.

When I got home, I did the deadlift simulations in my new shoes and underpants. I don’t know why I’m single.

Anywho…

Good mornings
45x10
95x5
135x5
155x5
175x3x5

At this point, I was approached by a handsome stranger who, thankfully, resisted the urge to tell me my squat form was crap. Turns out it was none other than t-nations Ddot76.

Later on I watched him load the bar up with a shit ton of plates and stand near them and look cool. Maybe next time, I’ll see him squat them. That’ll give me a reason to go back.

Chins
1x14
1x9
1x5

Seated cable rows
70x16
80x9
80x7

The entire workout my shirt was driving me nuts. My daughter had thrown her fake mohair sweater in the wash with my stuff and my workout shirt looked like a herd of cats had died on it. I kept pulling off clumps of psuedo cat fur.

Don’t we all…however he touches mine without me even asking him too. Maybe he likes me more.

Me neither. However my gym friend was asking about you today (the guy whose name I didn’t remember last weekend when we were there together)… maybe he’ll touch your inner thighs. You wouldn’t even have to pay him!

You don’t have to lie. Todd’s ego doesn’t need the stroking of you calling him handsome. Anyways, I think I deflated it when I got there by calling him fat. And he didn’t squat the weight, he curtsied it. Just ask him. Except he’ll try to tell you it was part of the program he’s doing. Really, he does power curtsies and claims that as his max  hahaha. I wonder why I’m NOT single…cuz I’m really not very nice. I sure have Bartl fooled!

So your gym friend was asking about me. That’s cool. Can I call him Joe? That’s the ex boyfriend I could have sworn he was. Anyway, he already touched my inner thighs … with his face when I spotted him on bench. It’s a new incentive method. You can breathe when you lock out.

As far as Mr. Chiro goes, not only does he put his hands in my pants; he tells me I’m strong while he does it. It’s kind of fucked up and strangely sexy all at the same time. I’m seeing him Wednesday. I may see if he will suggest some warm up stuff for the areas I’m having problems with at the meet.

I was chatting briefly this evening with Hong Kong’s strongest man and Friday night I’m going to play around a bit more with foot placement and toe direction on deadlift. It’s my last pulling session before the meet.

fwiw, I think Todd is handsome and he probably needs to hear it with people like you telling him he’s fat. You are a mean, mean girl and I bet that’s what Bartl likes best about you.

Ya see, I would take that as a reason NOT to lock out. Nothing wrong with an extended isometric hold, is there?

Oh yeah, good luck with the chiro’s hands in your pants.

I’m doing my part to revolutionize lifting. I did spot him on bench for real. I’m even relatively certain he appreciated having a spotter that knew what they were doing.

I’m looking forward to seeing the chiro. I’m hoping he can give me some guidance on warming up. I’m pretty frustrated right now. It feels like my body is falling apart. None of it is major but it’s like I’m having to nurse various parts and I don’t feel indestructible like I always have in the past.

It’s most likely just short term annoyances. Similar to how a high level athlete is likely at her/his unhealthiest when at top performance, a powerlifter’s body is extremely stressed the closer you get to peaking. And let’s face it, you’ve basically been rolling from one meet to the next since last year.

I’m sure the chiro can get you through the Nationals in fine condition, but you likely won’t feel 100% until after Nationals. Hey, no one ever said getting a squat record was easy!

Great meeting you.

Thanks for the compliment. Court just calls me fat when I’m not dieting and too skinny and small when I am. There’s no winning with that girl!

I was doing high box squats which really do look like ‘power curtsies’ so she’s correct for once.

Good to have another lifter at the GL Burlington.

I know you were doing box squats. She can be really mean and bossy sometimes. Lucky for her she’s cute enough to pull it off (No lesbo).

Maybe you can show me how to properly do box squats when I’m done my meet. I’ve tried them before but feel unstable and like I’m going to go over. It’s a good way to work the middle of the squat.

Certainly.

If you haven’t read this already, have a peak at this.

And then go watch these videos.

Thanks very much for the links. I must have missed the article on box squatting. It is very well written even from the perspective of normal squatting. It covers, in detail, everything you need to be thinking about when setting up to finishing. It’s a lot of things that I can forget to think about in particular, filling my belly with air.

However, given that a wider base and thicker centre leads to bigger numbers I’ve already challenged. I have a 26" waist. Most of the women in my weight class are quite a bit shorter than me. I may need to seriously start thinking about thickening up and moving up a weight class over the summer.

Loved the video too. I think I may have to start with the bar so I don’t kill anyone until I get the form going.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I realise I haven’t been at this for a ton of time but this is the first time I’m getting body issues. You are quite right that I’ve been going from meet to meet for a while. In fact, since I started working out 2 1/2 years ago, I haven’t taken any time off at all. After this one, I think I’ll take a week or two off and just relax.

I think when it’s not fun and you dread it slightly is when it’s time for a break!

Aww, relaxing…that equals FAT city for me…grumble

It would be fun to just go to the gym and do whatever…maybe take a few yoga classes, and maybe polish up on my step aerobics?

Seriously, have you ever tried one of those classes?? There HARD!! For me anyway, since I have zero coordination…

Maybe you can take a pole dancing class? LOL!!

The truth is that I love every minute I’m in the gym. I think that is part of the reason that I haven’t allowed myself a break since I started.

I fall asleep at night thinking about my lifts and what to do to fine tune them. I wake up in the morning thinking about the same thing. I agonise over the minutiae of every aspect of it.

In fact, I think I’m a bit obsessed. If I take some time off it would only be to allow my body to straighten out a bit. Maybe I’d spend a couple weeks just doing mobility and stretching and whatnot.

As for pole dancing, I’ve yet to find a pole I want to dance around

I checked out the Fitday food calculator and now I want to have a nap. Hopefully it’s easier once you get used to it but it took a an hour to do my food today.

Anyway, todays food was/is:

Calories: 2,103
Fat grams: 88.5 (must be the bacon)
Carbs: 216.6
Protein: 127.2

This is on a lower protein intake day. On training days I add in protein drinks and I typically have more meat but I’ve been in a bacon frenzy lately.

Now that I’ve done the work. Can someone tell me what it means?

Anyone get any odd emails lately?

No. Why, you wanna send me one? :stuck_out_tongue:
