A Cheerful Misanthrope

Yeah, I am going to make one. I’m going to use a slick rope so it is less grabby on the wrap. I figure you can just do the loop around the dowel, and then you can replace the rope easily if it frays. I think the important part is to make sure the loop doesn’t pull apart during the pull. I think I’ll find some clamps or something.

If you make your own, you still have to send them a royalty cheque. If you don’t, they will find you…they’re like that!

We are totally like that. However, something tells me PMPM is like that too. It would be a close match.

Love the new avatar.

That’s OK, its 2 on 1, no need to fight fair.

Thanks, I found it here

Thanks for the link Ruggerlife. There are some good pictures there. Too bad none are of the women. However, Niagara will likely update their site shortly with photos of the meet like they’ve done in previous years.

I forgot to mention last night at the gym one of the trainers approached me about my funky do shoes. He was looking for something similar and really liked mine. I wowed him with how super they are. That’s the first time I’ve had a guy envy my footwear.

Must not’ve peed in that pair, eh??

If you want to do it earlier/later let me know. I’ll be heading a bit earlier to get some mobility work in.

That sounds good or maybe I’ll head over a bit earlier. What’s the location again?

I was thinking about Hoi’s puller. I may see if I can make a couple for us. It isn’t like it’s rocket science. I can get some wooden or thick plastic dowling at Home Depot and the appropriate gauge rope, drill a hole, secure the rope and bob’s your uncle. I’ll take a close look at his on Sunday. Maybe we can sell some on T-Nation and retire young off the proceeds of Court and Julie’s wrap puller thingy ™.

The nice thing about Home Depot is that you can often get them to do the work for you drilling and sawing and such.
It’s at the Burlington Mall - Guelph Line & Fairview. It’s above the foodcourt basically.

I know Glyn said something about them only being $10 so I’m not sure where he gets them from.

I’ll need 20 min or so to warm up first… my body don’t like me much these days… let me know when you’ll want to actually start and I’ll adjust.

You are mean. I’m gonna kick you hard if you keep poking fun of ouro…

You’ve been warned!

I’ve never even met her and I’m remarkably sure she can take care of herself.

Got those pink Chucks yet to kick with?

Do you mind if we actually start at 10:30? I’m not sure how long it will take to run my entire Sunday program. Hopefully not as long as at Bill’s what with watching Prince Andy but I’d hoping to actually do something with my kids as well.

Actually I did pee on them. It’s kind of like deer hunting. You use the smell of urine to lure them in. I’m hunting for a handler for Dianab and I to take to Moosejaw.

I’ll lure him with the shoes, whip out the chloroform and presto, when he wakes up, he’s surrounded by a whack of power lifting ladies that he has to look after. By look after I mean wrap knees, submit numbers tighten belts etc.

Got 2.
I work fast. But let me work out the details…

You do work quickly. How did you manage that? Are either one of them the fellow that’s taken an interest in your participation in the sport?

Now that I think about it, I’m going to see if one of the guys at work can make one for me. They’ve offered to beat people for me. Surely they wouldn’t balk at crafting a wrap puller thing.
The photo is BACKWARDS.

Yeah I know I realised text would be backwards after I posted it. PMPM is smarter than the average bear and can figure it out.

NO kiddin’, sdspeed!!

I’m a lot like my old basset hound, God rest his dear old soul. He’d bark and raise hell at all dogs he’d see through the window. If he was outside it was a completely different story. He’d ignore the other dogs and never at all act up.

I’m 1000 miles away so I’ll chuck all the “cybershit bombs” I can. Should I ever be in the same place with Ourboro_s and Court you can rest assured that I’d not only be quiet but would pretty much agree with whatever they said AND take pretty serious cautions about “rilin’ 'em up!”

Sunday February 1, Gym
45x10
65x5
85x5
90x4
95x3
100x2
105x1
85x5 with pause
75x10 with pause

DB bench
40x7 Court got the totally gay job of spotting me on these. I’m determined to do all my sets at 40 within a few weeks but in the meantime they start to wobble and I’m afraid of smashing my face in.
35x2x8

Squat
45x10
75x5
100x5
135x4
165x3 suit on straps down
185x2 suit on straps up
220x3 "

I started a new cycle and the numbers look odd but I had to work pretty hard at the end. The highest I’ve done for a triple in the past is 200. The 3 at 220 were ugly.

They were actually 3.5 reps. When I started the second one, I was too far forward on my toes and only went halfway. It isn’t a strength issue. It’s more mental with the higher weight. The guy in the rack next to us thought it was funny.

Deadlift
135x5
145x4
180x3
205x2
240x3
The last set was hardish. I could have done more which is good news because next Sunday is 250 for a triple.

Rack pulls
240x2
250x3
275x2
290x1

Year in review

I joined T-Nation Feb. 2 last year and I thought I would do an overview of what’s happened during that time.

Happily for everyone here, I’ll only touch on training milestones and leave my sad love life out of it.

Since I joined I’ve competed in two strongman competitions and 3 powerlifting meets. Actually I’ve done all this since June 21 of last year. No wonder I’m a bit tired at the moment.

When I joined, I was working with a trainer and trying to teach myself powerlifting but I was a bit lost about how to get where I wanted to go. Last summer, it all started to gel for me in finding coaches and training partners that helped me put my feet on the path to where I want to be. I stopped foundering around for direction.

Since I’ve pointed myself in the right direction for me and have applied myself to that end, I’ve made some pretty good gains. I don’t think its that I’ve suddenly become stronger. It’s more that I’ve had concrete goals to focus on and the direction to get there.

My current (geared) maxes at 56 kg body weight are:
Squat: 253
Bench: 132
DL:281

Targets for the next meet are:
squat: 275/285
Bench: 150
DL: 305

I don’t know my raw maxes anymore. Maybe in the summer I’ll have time to figure that out.

A big personal achievement for me is actually getting out there and competing and discovering that I love it. Another is qualifying for our Nationals in April. The other thing is that I have a reasonable chance of qualifying for worlds this April. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I don’t do anything foolish in Moosejaw.

If I get there, it will be one year after my first meet.

My litany of personal achievements isn’t for a pat on the back (I’d prefer cash) but to illustrate how solid direction can change your performance. I’ve gotten a lot of direction and information from people on this site that have helped immensely in pointing me to where I want to go. A lot of things gelled for me after talking to a lot of people here.

I make break out in song.

PM me if you need an address to send the cheques to.

You already rile me up. 1,000 miles or not.

I’m not sure why you didn’t want to include your sad love life. I figured that would be pretty short, so it’s not like it would have added length to your “I’m the best” post.

I’m not sending a cheque. If you’re nice, I’ll make you cry next time I wrap your knees.
