A Cheerful Misanthrope

I took this lower for sets of eight because I struggled to do 3x8 at 135 on Wednesday. It would be tough to do any progressive loading if it’s already kind of tough. I started with 8s just before beginning training at SC and did 135 - 145 but I don’t think I was going as deep as I am now.

I’m not completely ATG but it isn’t far off. I’m trying to go as deep as I can because I’m paranoid about losing a lift for not being deep enough. This is also the time I want to work more on my form. Coming up I need to get my hips forward faster and my back…back. I get stuck in the same spot. You can see it on my squat at the meet.

I can push through but I need to make it more of an automatic function. This only comes from repetition.

DL
135x1x5

I only ended up doing cleans because I was farting around near the end.

I have a squat suit on long term loan to try out. The official owner is Micropowers husband. The suit is an Inzer Champion size 32. It was a tough squeeze over the hips and I have shortened the straps with some boffo sewing using mint flavoured wax dental floss. It fits pretty tight. At least judging from the abrasions I have just from getting it on, it’s tight. Tight is good though right? When I tried it on last night I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get out of it. I’m pretty stoked to try it out.

Thanks very much to Mr. Micro, who, incidentally also gave me his old squat rack.

Nice score on the squat rack.
It sounds too stupid to be true, but make sure your alteration to the suit is legal. I just got a new belt, and due to the fact that it has a slight padding on the inside, it is not legal. The rules are pretty specific about even altering a singlet, I’ve been told, which sucks, because I know mine will be long on the shoulders too.
I’m thinking of wearing a lacy thong to equipment check, just to see what is legal for underwear.

That’s a good point about the alterations. I’ll have to ask Bill when he gets back. However, I did see one girl there with her suit straps sewn up which is what gave me the idea. It seems like it will be a lot more effective with tight straps. If they’re loose, you might as well not even have them up. Titan has custom made suits. In Canada it’s a fellow in Quebec that does it I believe.

Apparently thongs are no go for competition but only the boys had their underpants checked. No one asked to see mine. I was kind of disappointed. I did take my pants off for the weigh in lady though. She didn’t even buy me a drink first. I’m kind of like that

The alterations should be fine. I know USAPL, APA and APF allow it so I would be surprized if your fed didn’t. I had a seamstress do mine. Only cost $6.

I would guess that size 32 is too big for you. That is the same size as my z-suit and I wore it when I weighed 163lbs and it was loose. Have you tried lifting in it yet?

No. I’m going to try it tomorrow. It’s mostly just a loan to see how it feels. I have ordered a Z suit size 29 but now I’m worried about whether I’ll be able to get into it. I found the Champion is very hard to get over my hips and even just farting around I’ve already got abrasions on the tops of my thighs.

I wonder if they are more designed for men’s physiques with narrow hips. If the cash fairy ever flies out my backside, I could get a custom made one from Titan.

Take it where you can get it O

Your size will be fine. It is not suppose to be easy to put on and should require help the first few times you wear it. If you did not order suit slippers then cut up some nylons. You want something to slide the suit over so you are not cutting yourself up. You will still have bruises from squatting but putting on the suit will be less painful. Put baby powder on your legs too.

There is a use for the smith machine. Put your straps on the bar and hanging from it will help get a tight suit on  The z-suit will loosen up after a few uses.

I work out at a family gym. You should see the looks I get from the other female members when I am trying to squeeze into one of my suits.

Squat suits are definitely made for men. My Metal suit is several sizes too big so I could fit my legs. I am using it at my next meet then I will have the hips and waist taken in. I am still getting a lot out of it but after the alterations I should be hitting some major PRs.

I know this is the wrong forum and I apologize in advance, but . . . . . thirsty??

My Z suit will be delivered next Tuesday. I can hardly wait. I actually have several pairs of stockings that will likely work in lieu of suit slippers for the time being. None of the guys at my club have ever used suit slippers. Maybe their suits aren’t tight enough either. My fun personal challenge will be to see whether I can get them to try stockings too

As it is, if this is much tighter than the Champion, I’m definately going to need their help getting into it. I just hope I can get it up over my arse. I may need the most powder on that. I’m not exactly huge but I definately have hips.

When am I not? I’m a big fan of A&W rootbeer.

Wednesday September 24 SC

Bench
45x1x10
65x1x5
75x3x8
65x1x10

DB Bench
35x3x8

Squat
45x1x10
95x1x5
125x3x8
95x1x5 (pause at the bottem of each rep)

I did the sets of 125 with my borrowed squat suit to get a feel for moving in it. I found it difficult because I don’t think it’s meant for sets of 8 particularly with a belt on tight.

By the end of the first set I found it tough to draw a deep breath and was anxious to pull the entire thing off. I didn’t feel like I could breathe properly until I had the belt off and the straps down.

For sets 2 & 3 I left the belt one notch looser and it was better. I felt fairly mobile but I don’t think I will feel much effect until I start moving the weight up and the reps down again.

Mostly I think I need to work on my sticking point which is getting my hips forward and shoulders back which I can’t see any equipment assisting with. I was doing better this evening once I started pointing my toes at more of an angle rather than more straight forward.

I may go to the gym on Saturday just to work on squat form. I really just need the repetition.

Power cleans
95x3x5

I do have some pretty nice bruises from the suit and it was a bit of a team effort to get me dressed.

We don’t all hang out in Goose Bay. In S. Ontario we don’t need Screech to make life bearable  It only takes rootbeer and grilled cheese sandwiches.

Wow. As if your pictures haven’t sold me, I’ll take the rootbeer/grilled cheese route. Add a few kettlebells and a barbell to make it paradise!

I was married to a Newfie (we parted on very good terms) and have spent some time in St. John’s. An absolutely fabulous group of people, I adore Newfoundlanders.

Oh, I’ve loved “The Hip” for many years and she got me into Great Big Sea. Which do you prefer?

O, were you, my fellow just outside the GTA-er, just compared to a Newfie?

No shit. I’m not nearly that much fun. I am originally from Nova Scotia though. That must count for something.

If I had to pick between The Hip and Great Big Sea, I’d pick Metallica  I’m much more of a rocker girl with no real in depth knowledge of any type of music.

As far as music goes, I’m the idiot part of idiot/savant. It’s a weakness that I’ve only let public in the last little while.

I do know I don’t like The Hip. I don’t know what the hell that guy is singing about.

I’ve never been to Newfoundland but I’m originally from NS. My family still lives on St. Margaret’s Bay.

FYI, I like my grilled cheese with Jalapenos.

O

Do you have an accent? I love the east coast accent, Nova Scotian or Newfie.

It does seem there is a high percentage of Canadian women here. (I just noticed Court is also Canadian)

No I don’t have an accent. I grew up in a military family and have lived everywhere from Nova Scotia to W. Germany. I can fake one though

It does seem like there are a lot of Canadian women on here at least proportionate to the size of our population. Maybe we are just really vocal.

Just off the top of my head are

Me
You
Court
JChenky
MSM
Dianab

Okay so maybe that isn’t a ton but we are pretty vocal
