You weigh in one person at a time in a private room. It’s just you and the person recording your weight (probably Marlene Moore). The women are usually weighed in first.
Yep I did Ottawa in July and I did Belle River in June. They were both so much fun. I lifted fully raw, no belt, no knee wraps, nothing but a loose singlet. I bought some knee wraps at the Ottawa meet and have ordered a belt and will start using more equipment next year. I’m going to enter the senior provincials but I’m going to be raw again so it’s more going to be for the experience than anything else.
For wilks, the formula is www.powerlifting.ca/wilks.html and there’s another link there for the calculator.
Thanks for the link on the Wilks.
When you did Ottawa and Belle River, what weight class were you in? How did you end up doing?
Do you know the regulations with regards to singlets? Do they have to be plain? I ordered one from APT but I’m not sure if it has to be a CPU sponsor logo. Bill isn’t sure either. I know the t-shirt has to be plain and we will wear matching club ones.
I was told for CPU that as long as it’s a singlet and not spandex, you are OK.
Is your’s tie dyed or something LOL.
In the QPF, as a novice you do not even need a singlet, but if you hit a record it won’t count unless you are wearing one.

Mine’s a singlet that I bought online from APT pro weight lifting gear. It has their company logo and I’m not sure if they are a CPU sponsor. If I can’t show the logo, maybe I’ll turn it inside out. Hopefully, there isn’t a cotton gusset or something. That would look bad on the outside. I’m also not 100% on the shoes. They fit the physical requirements but aren’t actually athletic shoes so much as dorky type work ones that are perfect for squat.
Hmm…well, for my singlet, I had went to watch the Golden Triangle open in Cambridge in May and asked about my singlet then. Mine says Metal on it and they said that was ok. I know they can be any colour but I’m not sure exactly what logos are CPU approved. Maybe this is a good list to go by? http://www.powerlifting-ipf.com/ Oh and it seems like they don’t have to be skin tight. Mine hangs off me pretty good and it’s been fine so far.
For the t-shirt, it can have something on it if it’s an OPA club shirt or previous contest shirt so your club shirt will be fine.
Shoes I don’t really know much about. I wore converse for squat and bench and then pumas for deadlift. They didn’t have a problem with those.
I’m comfortably in the 52kg class. I was weighing in around 110 lbs before Ottawa so I contemplated dropping down to the 48kg class but I thought better of it. I decided it would be too much cutting, which I’m not at all experienced at, for no real reason (I had already qualified for provincials in Belle River).
In both meets, I ended up being the only 52kg woman so I “won” the class by default. I did well anyway though considering I was raw. For Ottawa, my best meet, my numbers were 82.5kg squat, 52.5kg bench (I missed 55kg), and 115kg deadlift. I am very interested in what I will lift when I start wearing equipment.
Way to go on the pullups! I’m very impressed. You rock!

I don’t see APT on the approved list, that kinda sucks for you. But check out the ipf link above, you have to go under technical and then approved list.
I tried on a Titan singlet today for size (we have a bunch at my gym) and I guess I should put an order in too. Doesn’t mention shoes though, let me know if you need a contact for them.

I checked the link listed by Sensgirl. APT is an IPF sponsor. I wonder if it has to be CPU though. I swear I’m spending more time thinking about stuff like this than improving my lifts.
I just don’t have the cash to buy another one right now. If worse comes to worse I’ll try it inside out or blacking out the logo.
Otherwise, there’s an old one at our club that fits me that I can borrow.

I think I need a sponsor for my life :)
Did you check out the approved list?
I’m letting my gym owner do all the thinking and planning. I had no plans to compete until next year until I met her. She wants to have a few of us to represent the club, so I’m good with that.
If you find a sponsor, see if they want me too. I’m open to adoption as well.

This is the list of approved IPF logos:
Allsize Denmark
Goodlift
House of Pain
KAPPI.NO
Power-House Japan
Quest Nutrition USA
GNC Pro Performance
Under armour
APT wristwraps are approved for wraps (that’s the company I bought my singlet from). I can’t see just using the above logos on singlets though because I’ve seen people with Inzer and Metal logos. I’m so confused.
Maybe we can get a group adoption/sponsorship thing going.
Hmm that list is confusing. Maybe those are approved logos for the meets themselves, not for apparel?
I was told Metal is OK too.
Maybe you should sent a picture to someone on the committee to get a definitive answer.
What weight class are you competing in? I’m supposed to be 132 but my scale says 3 lbs more than that right now LOL.

Let me see if I get this straight. There is a certain element in PL that wants to get the sport recognized as an Olympic sport and at the same time increase the participation level in that sport.
Sooooooooooo, in their wisdom, they put in place certain rules that are so complex and confusing that these rules need an official ruling from some committee on a simple singlet issue.
If they were really serious about increasing the numbers of PL competitors - LIFT NAKED.

I’m going for 123. My scale says I’m bang on. My coaches scale on the other hand tells a much sadder story. I think I will need to lose 5 more lbs. It’s certainly within my reach…if I cut my toe nails and stuff.

No kidding. Even my coach isn’t 100% certain and he’s president of the provincial association. Maybe I’ll do what I do best and play dumb but have a backup plan.

I think you are right (logos for meets not apparel).
Certainly any Inzer, Metal and Titan logos are allowed as those logos are all over the allowed suits.

Thanks very much. I just ordered one now. That’s perfect then there won’t be any question. I can wear the APT one around the yard when I’m doing the lawn. That’ll make the neighbours talk

Tim Horton’s? If you wore that, you’d fit right in. It’s okay to laugh…you know that I speak the truth. lol
I missed the chance to tell you to kick ass but I look forward to hearing how you did. If anything, I hope that you got to meet a lot of cool people and you had a blast.

Thanks for the well wishes. I just posted about the competition. Sadly I mostly got my ass kicked and am feeling it now.
