Thanks Brutie! I saw your FB posts, wish I could’ve seen you but no biggie!
Show recap:
I got there around 10 am. It was an outdoor show at a city fair thing, so parking sucked. I managed to sneak in and park in a bank drive-through right at the competition site. I checked in, put on the competition shirt, stretched my hips a bit, chatted with the other ladies (same group as last time), ate a bit, watched the parade, etc. It was a nice morning, but it was kind of breezy and looked like there could be thunderstorms.
First event was the yoke, 400 lbs, 80 feet. I hate the yoke, so much. Last comp was 350 lbs for 40 feet. I got about 72 feet with a few drops before they called time. Sucked.
Second event was truck pull, 60 feet. I’d never pulled a truck before. I wore heavy hiking boots, since I don’t have climbing shoes of my own and tennis shoes apparently fall apart. It took a lot of effort to break the truck from the dead stop, and I think it would’ve definitely been better in climbing shoes. It was a pretty decent pull, but I knew at this point it would be a battle for 3rd. The first and second place women are very strong, and very experienced.
Third event was axle clean and press for reps with 125, 45 seconds. I got 5, and tied for 2nd on it. The first was a clean and press; the last four were continental cleans. I’m definitely strict pressing this stuff too much, the last press was no hips at all, I just ground it up. After this, my left hand was kind of messed up hurting, but I rubbed it out and just dealt with it.
Fourth event was farmer walks, 150/hand for 80 feet. I hook grip the handles. These went well, until the very end where my left hand went. I tried flinging the implements across the finish line but was about 6" short. I dragged/picked up/yanked them over and that was that.
Last event was stones for reps over a 50" yoke, 1 minute, 160 lb stone. I was first up, brand new stone, never been touched. It was slippy! I got the first rep, and I was working on lapping and coming over the top and the damn stone just kept slipping down my shirt. I wore a shirt with a graphic on the front hoping it would be grabby, but it just slid down. It sucked.
Almost got the stone over a second time - had it up against the yoke - and it slipped back down. Tried it again, with time running short, got it to the same spot, and then I held it in place with my tits, grabbed the yoke’s cross bar, and pushed it over with my bosoms.
Yes folks, tits are not just decorative, they are useful for strongman competitions too!
So, I ended up getting third, but overall I was much more comfortable. I just need to get more experience, and a stronger back and grip!
Sore: hands, upper back, obliques.
Good times. Next one is in August or September. Until then, there is a PL comp in July.
