A Breath and a Scream

PS-> I miss eavesdropping in on your training…how are you doing for the state meet prep?[/quote]

Hey lady. Training is okay, not consistent or anything, but I’ve had some fun squats. Benching has been minimal, but I figure with the work I’ve done on my back, tris, and shoulders things should be okay. I’ll put on my equipment later this month and see if it even fits anymore! Should be a good time…

Even if I decide to go raw, I’m still gonna wear knee wraps so I am “equipped” and don’t have to lift against you…

cool!

so what’s with the wt classes now? i know they were supposed to change, but i saw some voting thing on the internet.com to keep them the same as the old way for national lifting?

i’m slowly half heartedly trying to drop a lil wt…hoping they still have a one sixty five class i can water deplete into…

I don’t know what is up with the weight classes, I haven’t seen that change officially, and I haven’t voted that survey yet. I’m not even sure how they are going to select the World team right now, although it looks like the woman who won nationals at 82.5 had a higher total than anyone under 84kg in the 90kg class, so she will be on the National team. The second and third highest totals in 82.5 were also higher than anyone under 84kg, so they will probably be doing NAPF/Pan Ams.

hmm…:{ i guess we’ll find out? :{ oh! according to the state games website, it looks like there will be the old classes.

Yeah, I think I read that the changed classes will only be international, and possibly at nationals - local meets will stay the same.

Dropping by… I lurk in your log because I think the strongman thing is so badass! Think I might like it, but I’m probably too scrawny to compete.

So the comp is this weekend? Good luck. Also good luck with fending off that fiery ball in the sky. Nothing worse than sunburn.

Yep, comp is Saturday. I am seriously going “maybe I could sprain my ankle or something so I don’t have to compete” since I am so convinced I will be squashed.

450 lb yoke - I’ve never gone above 400. 150 lb axle clean and press for reps - I might get one. I’ve never pulled a truck, but I think I can do that okay. I’ve done 150lb/hand farmer walks for 80 feet before okay, but this comp is 160lb/hand. The stone - well, that will just have to happen as it happens. I’ve done a 155 stone before, but I have never done the “over yoke for reps” part. And I still haven’t done stones since the last comp.

I’m secretly - okay, really openly - hoping that not enough women show up, and they combine the classes to all middle weight. That will be a 400 yoke, 125 press, 150 farmers walk, and shorter distance for the truck pull. I know there are two heavy weights, and one middle weight who are competing. Brutus isn’t, and there might be a light weight who is competing.

I know I am a wuss.

As for the sun - today it is cloudy and cool. A little misty. I think I’d prefer the burn than trying to carry wet implements. Saturday is a high of 78 with a 30% chance of thunderstorms.

Not.

I couldn’t do ANY of those for the heavy wt class. That shit is no joke!! But you won’t get crushed!

the other chicks seem to have been doing strongman far longer then you and i’m convinced that the various exercises take longer then pl to get that stuff down smooth and fast let alone the amount of strenght it requires in the first place.

you’ll do great!!

How have you been training to supplement the events?

I’ve been neglecting formal PL benching, deadlifting, and squatting in favor of lots of grip and core work, and lots of back work. I’ve also spent a lot of time working on things like the clean, getting that form better. I still, of course, do the PL stuff, but when I pull, it has been from the higher place where the bar will be on the axle/tires, and squatting and benching are kind of more accessory.

I can’t come, but Good LUCK

Thanks Brutie! I saw your FB posts, wish I could’ve seen you but no biggie!

Show recap:

I got there around 10 am. It was an outdoor show at a city fair thing, so parking sucked. I managed to sneak in and park in a bank drive-through right at the competition site. I checked in, put on the competition shirt, stretched my hips a bit, chatted with the other ladies (same group as last time), ate a bit, watched the parade, etc. It was a nice morning, but it was kind of breezy and looked like there could be thunderstorms.

First event was the yoke, 400 lbs, 80 feet. I hate the yoke, so much. Last comp was 350 lbs for 40 feet. I got about 72 feet with a few drops before they called time. Sucked.

Second event was truck pull, 60 feet. I’d never pulled a truck before. I wore heavy hiking boots, since I don’t have climbing shoes of my own and tennis shoes apparently fall apart. It took a lot of effort to break the truck from the dead stop, and I think it would’ve definitely been better in climbing shoes. It was a pretty decent pull, but I knew at this point it would be a battle for 3rd. The first and second place women are very strong, and very experienced.

Third event was axle clean and press for reps with 125, 45 seconds. I got 5, and tied for 2nd on it. The first was a clean and press; the last four were continental cleans. I’m definitely strict pressing this stuff too much, the last press was no hips at all, I just ground it up. After this, my left hand was kind of messed up hurting, but I rubbed it out and just dealt with it.

Fourth event was farmer walks, 150/hand for 80 feet. I hook grip the handles. These went well, until the very end where my left hand went. I tried flinging the implements across the finish line but was about 6" short. I dragged/picked up/yanked them over and that was that.

Last event was stones for reps over a 50" yoke, 1 minute, 160 lb stone. I was first up, brand new stone, never been touched. It was slippy! I got the first rep, and I was working on lapping and coming over the top and the damn stone just kept slipping down my shirt. I wore a shirt with a graphic on the front hoping it would be grabby, but it just slid down. It sucked.

Almost got the stone over a second time - had it up against the yoke - and it slipped back down. Tried it again, with time running short, got it to the same spot, and then I held it in place with my tits, grabbed the yoke’s cross bar, and pushed it over with my bosoms.

Yes folks, tits are not just decorative, they are useful for strongman competitions too!

So, I ended up getting third, but overall I was much more comfortable. I just need to get more experience, and a stronger back and grip!

Sore: hands, upper back, obliques.

Good times. Next one is in August or September. Until then, there is a PL comp in July.

Nice work with the tits.!
Great to hear you getting out there! Beast effort.

Right ON!!!

yeah boobs!

Yet another reason I would not excel at strongman.

Congrats on another fine performance! Glad you are enjoying it.

So you’re doing the late-July meet in the Springs? Geared? It will be fun to see you.

Fantastic! That sounds fun. Or brutal. Whatever.

Awesome stuff! I’m sure you will do even better once you’ve figured out all the tricks and tactics. Extra points for the innovative use of boobage.

WOW! That sounds SO COOL! I want to try one of those some day for sure! Way to go!!
