A 2 Year Trek Through The Amazon

Former British Army captain Ed Stafford, 33, is well on the way to becoming the first man in history to walk from the source of the Amazon in the mountains of Peru to its mouth in Brazil. And he’s not doing it in the hope of achieving notoriety, nor is he being paid handsomely for his efforts. No, he’s doing it out of a sense of adventure - for the sheer derring-do.

I can’t even imaging living in a 40 degrees, 100% humidity enviroment…

Wow that is amazing. I really hope he completes it because that is a true demonstration of huge desire and determination. To get as far as he has done is absolutely incredible.

That must be lonely as all hell.

I bet has 3 hour discussions with tree frogs as he enjoys a cup of his own urine.

Dude’s a badass

He’s obviously on steroids.

I would have at least taken a canoe. Pretty awesome though and I hope he makes it. I can’t imagine trying to do something like that w/ just a compass, machete, mosquito net, and bag of salt.

If nobody has heard of BOSS, Boulder Outdoor School of Survival, they have 7 day ,14 day, and 1 month classes where they send you out into the Utah Badlands w/ a blanket, a poncho, a knife, a compass, and some additional clothing to learn to survive with nothing.

Ultimate Badass. If he completes it, no one will ever come close to this survival adventure again.

He’s going to set two records. One for walking through the Amazon and another for having the world’s smelliest balls.

really?? you must be still drunk

Omg, that must be so exciting. I remember building houses in the mountains of Guatemala for the villagers there, although it doesn’t at all compare. Going alone is pretty awesome. I can’t even imagine the sheer amount of things you’d learn about yourself by doing something like this.

hardcore. He will have his own show on Discovery channel or National Geographic one day.

White people are crazy.

I LOL’d.

Hope he enjoys his Leishmaniasis among other fun “friends” he’s sure to acquire.

Haha, I thought the sarcasm would be obvious. Guess not.

Haha, I was actually studying for a parasitology exam which, amongst other things, included the Leishmania buggers when I read this article. What you wrote was my first thought within seconds of hearing how he was going about this journey.

Haha, it’s the rainforest… I doubt he is short of drinking water.

Oh, I’m sure he’s not…but it’s sterile, and he likes the taste.

Really though, the mental discipline it would take to maintain your sanity for 2 YEARS of solitude is almost unbelievable. I did a 5 day “survival” thing once in the South Pacific and I got lonely as shit by day 3
