While I admire the endeavour, I can’t help wondering if the reason nobody has done it on foot before is that there is a great bloody river next to him…
The sheer magnitude of this endeavor is amazing.
People are probably comparing it to hiking the Appalachain Trail, but this endeavor is 1000x more ballsy.
To put it this way, you start in a mountainous environment, which is cold as hell in the winter, and then progress to a 100% humidity, 90+ degree environment on a daily basis.
There is no civilization around, no way to get extra clothing, obtain more food or call home for help, you have to rely on the land entirely for all of your resources including fire building (which is hard as hell, because it’s a rain forest, everything is damp). Creatures which only your imagination can contemplate looking at you as food, rather than the other way around in a lot of cases. Building your own hunting equipment, making sure you don’t eat anything poisonous (we don’t know a lot of the vegetation there yet), making sure you don’t get eaten by a croc or pihranas, etc.
This is an undertaking that if completed, in my opinion is one of the greatest ever. Even more so than Everest, North Pole. It won’t likely be duplicated in our lifetimes and maybe never again.
I will be praying for him to make it.
