Clearly I’m the only person that gets the Archimedes reference. Give me a level long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it and I shall move the world.
The fact is the force on her leg is acting about or 4 inches from the knee. Or the fulcrum of this system.
(Worked out from the bar hole is over the knee and 1/4 of the diameter of the bar is 4inches).
This results is a turning moment, quantified as 900lb x distance = moment.
To replicate this moment in a full squat so we can judge it’s relatively difficulty.
Inside leg measure of her is about 28 inches?
Moment = 28 x 128.
This is as impressive (force for force) as a 128 squat held. This of course assumes many things like friction and stability are minimal players. The whole force is acting on the leg which I doubt etc etc.
But as an order off value is clear this is hardly shocking.
Kenny KO claimed that, after this, she deleted her instagram, basically out of shame or maybe because she was getting too much hate. I guess that isn’t the case. Instagram deleting her account alleging that she was “glorifying self-harm.” Whatever you think of her, Kenny KO, as a guy who talks so much about being committed to the truth, should correct the record on that IMO. Heba Ali actually has a petition to try and get back onto Instagram.accounts.
Maybe it’s just me, but I’m surprised how heavy she went before failing. Certainly no need to reinvent the wheel with strength movements, there’s plenty of ones to choose to test/prove one’s strength before doing something silly like a weighted wall sit. But I’m somewhat impressed how far into it she got.
This is essentially a test of the compression strength of the lower leg, primarily the Tibia, and secondarily the fibula. I don’t THINK muscularity really plays into this much at all, assuming alignment of weights and shins is pretty correct.
This also seems incredibly dangerous if alignment is not perfect. If the shins are even at a slight angle under the load, sheering strength comes into play as well, which will be much lower for bones than compression.
Agree that muscle strength is relatively nil in this movement, I’m more surprised, to your point, she kept the proper joint/ankle/knee alignment. My “surprise” had nothing to do with strength, as this “lift” is more of the “bone on bone” variety… it’s just dumb luck she wasn’t mangled. I’m always amazed people come up with the useless and dangerous movements, but I suppose in the name of views/likes whatever, it’s worth it.
I gotta say… yea. it’s really stupid. The danger should have been really really obvious. I don’t get it at all. It’s really bizarre in general. To me, the call-out in the first place is bizarre enough. Like, that this video even exists in the first place. I never saw the original video where she did this, but to me, I don’t think I would have questioned the authenticity of the plates in the first place.
That video or any of its variants make my stomach turn so quickly. The one with the older lady was the first I stumbled across, immediately got the quivers.
