90’s Bodybuilding Was Pretty Damn Good

Yeah, Yates has been pretty open about his opinion on Insulin and how it had a negative effect on his physique. Think about that the next time you hear amateur or even pro BBers who couldn’t carry Dorian’s gym bag going on and on about ow much “slin” they’re using -lol.

Yates also came in looking dry as a bone and impressive as everyone expected the year they tested the Olympia for Diuretics as well. IMO that says a hell of a lot about who understands what they’re doing and who doesn’t.

If we are sticking with 90’s Momo’s back is right up there

He was one of only two guys to beat Yates, the other being Haney.

Momo was just insane. People always talked about Haney’s Back, and it was indeed crazy thick and wide, BUT, Momo’s back was just filled with all these crazy details, and was so conditioned that it took things to a higher level IMO. Certainly understandable why Yates respected him so much.

Labrada was a beast, both from physique and posing point of view. Too bad he never won an Olympia. I’m guessing his height is what held him back…?

But no one can beat Arnold Schwarzenegger

Several guys have beaten Arnold, literally. Also, in the '90s, he wasn’t exactly in prime shape.

Debating GOAT can/should be a separate thread. Let’s try to keep this thread on track.

I was always a Lee Priest guy.

Me too. I always thought his arms were insane.

Lee Priest looked better as a teenager than most grown men on steroids look. Also had some pretty sweet frosted tips.

I will say Lee has exaggerating his lifts in the past (claiming to beat a juniors bench press world record by around 100 lbs as an 18 Y/O for example, and the open WR by about 20 lbs), that have taken a bit away from my opinion of him. I also don’t believe his accounts of gear usage. Just seems one need more than a beginner cycle to do well in the Olympia.

re low drug use: In his case I can believe it, he has hall of fame genetics -if you look at pics of him at 19 he already has 90% of his IFBB level mass. Just needed to refine/add 5 here and there to look amazing

His daughter:

His dad, age 73:

His mom (with teenage Lee):

I’ve always maintained that the individuals at the top of the game, steroids as a separate issue, would always be at the top of the game. There are some photos online of Ronnie Coleman‘s mother who came on stage at one of his contest wins, and my God, the woman had guns on her That would make some people on this forum jealous.

I read somewhere that Coleman benched 315# the first time he lifted in college. Don’t know if it’s true, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

Bill Kazmaier claimed to pull 6 plates at 16 years old the first time he deadlifted at the Y. Genetics can be crazy. Bill also has exaggerated things in the past.

I went to one of Bill’s seminars and his stories were crazy. Him outpressing his gym teacher in middle school was hilarious.

What I have learned from the photos of Arnold and Mike is that I need to wear my shorts higher.

Yeah lee has amazing genetics. I still don’t believe some of the claims he’s made as to lifts he’s made. I’m sure he doesn’t care what me and others think but just makes you look dishonest when you’re telling lies about setting world records. Then when you say you’re using super low doses and made it to the Olympia stage, which is more likely in his case to be true, ppl will be less likely to believe you once you start a pattern of lies.

Regardless, that picture of his dad is impressive and possibly the scariest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. I didn’t need to sleep tonight…

I’ve been hearing rumors of iron Mike looking to get back in the ring :flushed:
