65+ Training

Thanks for the tip. I noticed their plates were more than even Rogue’s. They have comparably priced dumbbells though. We’ll see.

Finally ordered new rogue 100# and 150# sandbags…and I’ve scheduled a strongman introductory class for tomorrow at 5pm.

They are less than the Rogue urethane coated plates and more than the basic steel ones. The most important thing for me was they are available!

I looked at the ones you ordered. I’m concerned that the metal hole inserts won’t stay intact. I’ve seen photos of that happening, and how to reattach them into the plate. In a few more weeks I suppose I’ll be ordering them if nothing else is then available. I’m on several wait lists around the internet. Presently considering some dumbbells.

Yesterday, 6/19 400# yoke walk 20’ stop/ turn. Could only make 10’ back (coach called me off)
Just now 6/20. 80# sandbag on shoulder .83 miles (switching shoulders, not put down)

Rogue bags came in today, gonna load that 100 pounder tonight.
I’m liking carrying heavy shit more than powerlifting…

Took the new 100# sandbag for a short walk tonight, 50’ turn around and back. 100’ total. Whole different animal bearhugging than on shoulder.

Wait until you try a 150# one

I actually have one now, just need to get sand later this week. Looking forward to it!

Glad to read these last posts.

Carried the 80# sandbag .92 miles switching shoulders (barefoot) 23 minutes.

What are you guys doing?

Carl in Dover

23 minutes. Longshoreman material for sure.

I’ve been lazy, got to get back into it. I’m starting to miss regular weights.

pullups 5,5,5,5
120 lb sandbag bear hug carry 160 ft

Ordered pair of 3/4" 6’ chains, and another pullup bar with 4 cannonball handles to attach to the rack. Got a dipping attachment , a landmine attachment and a battle rope attachment, all awaiting assembled rack. Also ordered 2 bars; one biceps bar and an olympic bar built like a bridge so chest doesn’t stop the bar while benching. No regular olympic bar yet. My farmers walk 140lbs of weights will have to do until I can get plates, but chains might help a bit. Rack awaits assembly. Virus spiking here prevents friend with truck to move 100" uprights from office to my garage, and to help assemble that monster. Two side by side 4 x 6 horse stall pads in place await the rack, along with a sturdy bench, so it all should fit well in the garage with the cars. Crazy to spend so much on accessories with puny plates. I see my commercial gym has a lot of cars in afternoons. Crazy.

Sounds awesome.
Enjoy!!

@biker, you and those pull ups remind me I need to get back on them. Nice work with the sandbag carry, I still don’t have my sand for my 150# :slightly_frowning_face:

Tonight was strongman work at Mantra Strongman.
Stone over bar (52") 95#×3, 120#×3, but the 135# I lapped it but could not get it up. (did I really say that? LOL)

Some sort of roller grip thing lift.
3 reps each hand , 44#, and 55#

Then there was the Hoosavelt carry…
100# for 80’
125# for 80’
Then I tried to pick 175# but it was welded to the floor, Haha, I did barely lift 1 corner though. Hard to get hold of it. Legs in tight like a deadlift and my knees push it away. Legs wide like a sumo and I cant get the torque.

Just feels badass to move heavy stuff. Friday is supposed to be overhead stuff, maybe logs? I’ll try and get someone to take my pic so I can embarrass myself.

It looks like your home gym is growing.

carl in dover: I agree it does feel badass to move heavy stuff. With the workouts you’re doing you’ll be carrying a Husafell 175 soon. Always wanted to try one of those; I’ve read they really leave some almost indelible scratch marks.

Yes, my plateless gym. Almost got some dumbbells yesterday but was not fast enough with transferring $. They sold out in 2 hours’ time, but I did get a bicep curl bar.

120 lb sandbag bear carry 270 feet

Heat/humidity from hell at 4:10 am. Sweating hands (and every other bodypart) made pullups challenging; sandbag grip slipped at 250 feet. Sandbag slipping from grip will produce a badass, noninjury fall.

@biker awesome work with the sandbag, gives me a goal to go after!.
Worked my way up to 105# on a 12" log . Here’s a quick video of 100# , first day ever trying it.
Will do some sandbag work in a bit when it cools down.

EDIT: carried the 100# 200 feet just before dark bear hug style.

I’ve always wanted to try one of those.

Someone came into office 4:30 pm Thursday, wearing a mask. Person said a son had just gotten out of hospital after he had gotten over the virus. He is being tested daily for awhile to verify he does not have it any longer. I disinfected our conference room–twice–afterward. At least we practiced social distancing for the meeting.
