Thanks Biker, I’ll need to look into larger sandbags. Currently using traditional Farmers Walk handles with 45’s hanging on the ends.
Nice work on your end. Pull ups have always been tough for me.
I occasionally get those sleepless nights also. Visits from ghosts from the past. A little OTC melatonin helps me through…
I want to be a longshoreman too!
Getting warmer here in Delaware. Just a Farmer’s Walk repeat tonight.
Hope all is well with you guys.

Crippler, with your lifting record you’d be a longshoreman supervisor.
I noticed this morning that those pullups have gotten my arms back in shape. Quicker workout than your bicep gauntlet.
Carl, you wrote you’re using four 45s in your farmers walks. My farmers walk bars are those shorted olympic sized bars with handles and weigh 30 lbs each. If you’ve got those you’re carrying 120 lbs with each hand.
Good point Biker…the bars are ones I bought from Dicks, I suppose I’ll have to weigh them to be sure as they are not marked and no info on website. 2 days in a row kicked my but though.
Suppose that will put my longshoreman application in the “under review” bin ?
In other exciting news, my stimulus check came yesterday…now for some sandbag shopping.
Question for all…is anyone doing any powerlifting competitions soon?
5/30
no band pullups 5,5,5,5, close grip 4
farmers walk (l00 lbs per side) 110 ft, 110 ft (used straps)
bear hug 100 lt sandbag carry 220 ft
The farmers walk must have warmed me up for sandbag work; easier this time.
Nice work @biker. Pull ups numbers looking good…I’m still using bands or jumping pull ups. I shall have to try the bear hug sandbag walk.
I did 25 bag over shoulder w/50# sandbag last night in slightly under 2 minutes, then same bag on shoulder walk perimeter of 1-1/2 acre yard.( in measured)
6/1
pullups w/o band 6,6,6,4
farmers walks l00 each hand w/straps 2 x 130 ft
100 lb sandbag bear hug walk 160 ft
Farmers walks are a little easier; not so with sandbag shoulder carry. This workout left me feeling solid but really, really need free weights.
You are clearly getting stronger with those sandbags.
I hope so. I can’t tell with no plates but I do have a state of the art rack in my garage I can look at.
6/4
pullups 5,5,5,5,4
farmers walks 100 lbs each hand w/straps 2 x 125 ft 30 sec rest in between
l00 lb sandbag shoulder carries, 2 x 110 ft, no rest between switching shoulders
Need to increase weight on both carries. Different than gym work because I feel the carries for awhile afterward.
Im with you, they stay with me long after the works done…
I’m glad you wrote that. I was starting to wonder if something was wrong, despite liking the powerful feeling it creates.
For sure, heavy carry put a load on the whole system. I think more so than a heavy deadlift PR day.
Great job all in all Biker!
Inadvertent lazy lay off this week. I’ll blame the rains.
Had a mental workout yesterday when I ordered a 200 lb sandbag. I don’t have any plates…
200 lb sandbag? Impressive.
Crippler, just adjusting to the times. Still on several waiting lists for plates. Sandbag work/farmers carries leave me with a lasting, somewhat different feeling than regular workouts.
6/15
pullups 5,5,5,5,5
farmers walk bars w/straps 100 lbs each hand 2 x 160 ft
bear hug 120 lb sandbag 160 ft
Pullups and farmers walk were easier. New sandbag weight was hard. Great bench delivered Friday, and I still can’t order plates. Drove by gym parking lot this morning, it was l/3 full.
An eventual $900 plate/barbell investment is still safer than a virus induced double lung transplant like someone had last week in Chicago.
American Barbell has rubber coated olympic plates in stock. I got an order in last week. A bit of a shipping delay and they are expensive, but the rep told me the tolerances were +/- 10 grams, so they’re essentially calibrated plates which made me feel a bit better about the cost.
