How have you been feeling? Completely back to normal?

Almost normal. Physically, fine. Pretty good mentally, too. Throwing myself into my practice amid reality sinking in. Gym helps A LOT. I’d like very much to reconcile but I keep that to myself, because reconciliation has to be her idea. No fault here by either party, she just wants to be single at 67!

Looking back I realize I had gotten used to her doing so much on her own without me. After 8 years of a good marriage I gave her half the house which I had bought from the sale proceeds of my late wife’s and my home in the country, and 4 years later this happens. She came into this marriage with zero assets and leaves pretty well off. Probably why her first husband kept patting me on the back at his and her daugher’s wedding party twelve years ago.

It sounds like you are keeping yourself productive. That’s all you can do. Take care of yourself.

I’m sorry to read this, and stunned that she would rather go the final leg of her life alone than with someone.

I get what you’re saying about the ball being in her court, but when is it ever a bad idea to be authentic?

That’s just altogether crazy.

What is she saying drives her desire to be alone? What are either her complaints (current situation) or wishes (post-separation)?

She says she has too much stress in her life. Jeez, I ask her for next to nothing, so I think that’s just a comment. She doesn’t complain nor do we have fights. I think she has been putting her business ahead of the marriage, and I’ve learned to live with that.

YES to your first 2 questions. We don’t fight and I think we see things the same way. I thought we were approaching “finishing each’s sentences.” We’re being nice to each other presently.

I’ve been considering how to approach her regarding your 3rd question. My life long shrink friend feels she has been unhappy the last few years. (? News to me.) Maybe she was using her new business as an escape from me. Now that I’ve moved out I miss her, and I have time to think. Her second husband actively pursued her after she left him so I have to tread carefully. She can’t negotiate worth a darn.

Climbing 3 flights of stairs to my apartment for cheaper rent, stronger legs and some serious calves, and eased today’s workout. Delivery guys each carried separate parts of a new sectional couch I had to buy up those stairs, Rather them than me. I looked at that couch later and thought this seems permanent.

On a positive note, attractive sales lady in store was REALLY friendly. Said to call if I want to talk. Even so, my trust level is blown. Old friends are advising how to attempt reconcilliation in abaout 3 months to give wife time to consider reality of this mess. She told me Sunday this was costing her a lot, and that’s before getting monthly home expense bills she’ll have to pay. Surprised that homeowners insurance company has a divorce department and that I have to reside in that houase to keep insurance in my name.
