5x5 With Forearm Work

Does anyone think there is a problem with adding forearm work to Bill Starrs 5x5 linear version for intermediate lifters?

I don’t see a problem with adding work for forearms. But if you are doing heavy dead 5 X 5 you should probably be getting a pretty good forearm workout already

Nope! I already do forearms twice a week and i’m thinking about doing them a third. I can never get enough forearm work. I love watching them get shredded. I’m now starting to see all kind of definition in my forearms. I do 18 set workouts too.

As long as its 950 pound reverse wrist curls. Otherwise, you’re a fucking pussy with 9 inch arms.

Deadlifts will hit the forearm flexors more than the extensors. Someone even suggested that DLs provide a slow negative for your flexors as your grip loosens slightly through the course of a set.

With that in mind, you may focus your supplemental forearm work on reverse wrist curls and reverse curls. Maybe some hammers too.

Throw in regular wrist curls with some finger rolls every 2 to 4 workouts to blast the flexors extra hard.

Just keep an eye on your poundages. If they’re not increasing (on the forearms exercises) or you feel your grip giving out during DLs, you may be doing too much.

I’m doing the same routine and I do grip work three times a week. If you lift MWF, that’d be grip on TuThSa, and each grip session has extensor work. I’ve had no problems.

Bill often alowed some “beach work” on day three. I’d skip the bi/tri work and do forearms instead.

You can’t do too much grip work.
