5x5 (Madcow) or 5/3/1

Glad you made a choice, man. I feel like you’ll see great results from Madcow provided you stick to it. If you start up a training log please let me know so that I can follow it. PM me any time and I’ll do my best to get back to you ASAP.

Well ur advice was spot on lol !
My numbers soooo shitty I wouldn’t want to stink up this forum with a log lol ( really don’t have time too post them and update my training journal)
I will continue posting my progress though

I appreciate the advice from everyone

Guys one more stupid question…when increasing the weight by 2.5 percent you come up with some weird numbers eg 70 lb dbs come to 1.75 lbs smallest plates I have are 2.5 lbs I can either add one plate to one side of the db or I guess tie it to the handle with a band but either way the poundage doesn’t follow what is written in the program
Any tips

Same thing has happened to me during 531 and Juggernaut. Round up or down. Once you’ve picked how you’re going to round, maintain it for the duration of the protocol to the best of your ability.

I should have the trap bar tomorrow I was going to also use it to mimic squats ( be more quad dominant) buy keeping a sort of upright torso and pulling from a deficitanyone have any better ideas

I’m 5 - 9 about 210 with belly fat. I am not strong in any of the lifts which is the main reason for wanting to do the two programs. I like that bent rows are part of the 5x5 I don’t ohp due to disc issues in my neck. Would it be OK to substitute ohp with rows in the 5/3/1 program ? I also would be using split squats or using a trap bar from a deficit to mimic squats cuz I don’t do back squats ( don’t load my spine cuz of the neck issue)[/quote]
Have you tried/ can you do Zercher Squats? They would be more ideal than trap bar deficit deads. Madcow seems more natural to progress from 5x5, but if you do 5/3/1 be sure you plan out your assistance work wisely because it will be a huge jump in volume.

So I really like the simplicity of this program ( 5x5 ) and like the lower rep higher weight sets feels better I think Iam going to increase the wweight every two weeks for db bench press cuz I’m basically adding double the weight that the program calls for. I’m glad I went with it.

Son of a bitch !!! I think I have the flu again!!! Was starting to see some progress

you need a log, bro

I don’t know where/how . Why do u say I need a log though ?

He’s saying that mostly because logs are a more appropriate place to post updates aboutyour health status, how you feel about your training protocol, etc. Doing all that in a thread is a little weird. Just go to the Training Logs part of T Nation, click Post New, and there you go. Lemme know when you do, I look forward to watching your progress.
