500lbs Deadlift Thread

I may be weird but I can hold a whole crap more than I can deadlift. I’ve hit 460 without anything but a belt and I know I could have held much more.

For me it’s always my lower back that’s the problem. [/quote]

Got access to a reverse hyper? It worked wonders for mine.

About a month before the fall rugby season I had hit 500 one time. Now that the season is over and I didn’t work out much during it, I’m at about 460 I think. I should be back up there around the new year hopefully.

I hit 475 for the longest rep in the history of man, about a month ago. There is no chance it would be legal in a meet though.

I wish I did!! Instead though I found a use for the Smith Machine, I just lock it into the lowest position and hook my heels on the bar. Not nearly as comfortable but it works.

Try doing some light good mornings and work your way up in weight. We prefer the arched back variation. Training the posterior chain is a great way to up your deadlift, whether you pull sumo OR conventional. We use the glute/ham, reverse hyper and good mornings all the time and our deads just seem to keep going up and up.

645 @ 213 (w belt)

Just pulled 500 today.

550 at 200 pounds on Thanksgiving morning.

I deadlifted 400 for the first time about 2 weeks ago using a belt. I’ve never used chalk, a suit, or wristwraps. I’ve found that the shoes I wear make a huge difference with my basketball shoes addidas I only get about 350 but in my indoor soccer shoes 400 was fairly easy. I cleaned 200 for the first time last week!

Just got a new personal best of 515 today, not spectacular but I’m proud about it none the less!

Great lifting guys.

I’m surprised alot of the more vocal members who post here knocking everyone’s lifts down aren’t telling us about their 500+ pulls…

What the hell…

I got a 525 gym lift about 6 months ago in belt only and no hitching (I promise). At a meet this past September (@220 BW, Metal DL suit) I got 500 easy on a 2nd attempt but barely missed 550 at lockout. At next meet in Feb. I plan to get that 550 and then some, hopefully finishing 2008 w/ a 600-pound conventional pull @ 220. Not a great DL, but I’d be happy with it.

The funny thing to me is all these guys talking about how they just hit 500+ and they know it’s nothing great! Let me just say that I don’t think there is another person at my gym, which is in a highly populated neighborhood in DC, who can DL 500+.

Sure, there are some really elite PLers out there that are pulling HUGE weight, but IMO 500 is pretty rare. So congrats gentlemen. I know I was damn proud to reach that goal.

If people train for powerlifting, strongman, etc than a 500lb deadlift is average or mediocre if you weigh around 200 to be competitive.

Heheh. Nice call.

I thought the whole purpose of these threads was for people who were trying to reach that goal and to post what they were doing in order to get there, not to brag about already achieving it.

With that said, I’m still waiting for someone to start the 600lb DL thread.

Someone once told me that straps add about 40 pounds. What’s the consensus on straps in terms of additional weight?

It could also add 200lbs, or it could add none.

If your grip is the weak link then straps will help you lift what ever your body can, if your body is the weak link… Well you arent going to get shit out of them.

I pulled 535 conventional a few months ago at a bw of 185, Im hoping to get 3x bw in a couple months after I finish up a cycle of deficit deads and another cycle of sumos.
