I’m going to do 470 and if that’s smooth, I’ll try 500. My thighs and butt feel massive today from yesterday’s Anderson squats and hack squats. I’m going to have to warmup slow to get the DOMS out, but I feel some solid pulling power down there.
What’s interesting right now is the mental aspect: I’m thinking/feeling that 470/500 is not so big a weight.
We’ll see if I can put my money where my mouth is, however.
I train to improve myself. To put a stick in the mud, then push, claw, scramble, and crawl myself past it. Then, with a trembling hand, reach back, yank that bastard out of the ground, shove it in the ground ahead of me, and start over.
It’s something in my life I have total control over. If I fail, it’s a direct result of what I’ve done. If I succeed, it’s also a direct result of what I’ve done. It’s a personal challenge. It’s a reminder I’m effing ALIVE.
Plus, it makes me feel great. There are days I feel better now than I did when I was 20.
Someone recently asked me why I wanted to compete. I told them I was competing against myself. The judges are just there to ensure consistency.
And if anyone has an issue with how or why or when or what I train – screw 'em. I do this for me, not them.
I train because it makes me, mostly, feel better, and because I really feel like if you don’t have something you are struggling to achieve, some outside goal then you are just passing time waiting to die.

Bumper plates came today. My shins thank you, Staley Training. No more rolling DLs from angled plates - woohoo!
Congrats on the new toys! How many? Are they bigger around than the hex plates so you could use them on the inside to hold the bar and then add the hex plates for weight?

are they the same bumpers I got from Staley?? i have the oversized black ones that weigh 45lbs. i like them because they are just a little bit bigger than regular 45’s. makes it easy to slide more 45’s on when i’m pulling.
Bastardized Rene Des Cartes quote - a.k.a putting Des Cartes before the whores.
It’s a pun, son. Now you have to get vaccinated…
Excellent pun, Sir!

Parker’s answer when asked to use the word horticulture during a game of Can-You-Give-Me-A-Sentence?

Don’t lie! You like them because you can pull huge weight, and then drop it and listen to the beautiful sound!

Soldog: 2 45’s. Yes.
MarauderMeat: yes.
They are so new the chemicals used to bind the rubber together is still leaking out. My garage smells like a sweaty condom factory. I’m buying 35’s next. I want to be able to drop my cleans and snatches
My next comfort purchase is going to be a 4" power belt. I like prongs over the lever for some reason - I hope that doesn’t mean anything in Freudian terms…
Woohoo! within 2.5 lbs or so of bodyweight on OHP. Gain a little weight and I think the relative strength will go up even further, letting me pass bodyweight presses.

you can’t tight a prong belt nearly as tight though. i would go lever all the way.

Only if you like the double pronged, but even that is okay sometimes.
you have a lower back of steel there Pale One. It’s obvious that the zerchers and the like are really strengthening it. If you can activate the lower body on that sumo, your numbers will go way up. you basically took the entire lower body out of that sumo pull. for a sumo to be effective you have to start the lift with the lower body. i would take the stance out quit a bit. you really need to open up the groin as you initiate the lift.
as i start my pull i think about forcing my knees out as if driving out of the hole on a squat and i pull the bar really hard back into my shins. as i warm up. i often fall backwards because the weight is too light to keep me from falling backwards. once it gets up there i don’t fall back anymore. when performed properly your back position shouldn’t change. i have my training partners watch me and let me know if i get in front of the bar. i do my best to have the bar move straight up just like my squat.
