How’re you liking the floor presses?

They are the shit. Love 'em. I didn’t do them last session at the gym because there’s no convenient way to do them. I could probably McGuyver something from the gym equipment but just didn’t feel like it. Interestingly a full range bench is easier for me to perform - even with a pause - than a paused floor press. I even cheat a bit and keep an arch while doing them. I think it’s the leg drive on the bench that makes the difference.
God I hate the taste of milk now from drinking so much of it…but you’re right. I haven’t gotten near to downing a gallon per day yet.
Yeah, both floor and pin presses are much harder for me than actual bench presses, too. I think it’s because you start with your forearms in a suboptimal position, as opposed to a bench, where when your forearms are at that point, they’re perfectly under the bar.
I was shocked at how easy a 225 full ROM bench was compared to a pin press of the same weight from a 3-board distance.

Very nice work DCA…
I kind of agree on the weight thing- particularly with not so littlestrick
who claimed 3,4,5 very very quickly indeed.

i’m still waiting to get that “old man” strength that’s all the rage these days.

Do hot, young, nubile, over sexed females know it’s the rage? Just asking, you know, in case I just happen to be near a college weight room and decide to casually pick up a couple hundred pounds or so while wearing a t-shirt saying 'Old, but strong".

Remember to roll up the sleeves so the GUNZ show better.

i like to pull up my shirt and run my fingers through my belly hair.
I can’t do that; mine’s cornrowed with little beads on the end.
Floor presses are the shit…
sad thing is old man strength is usually paired with ear hair.
or the poodle on the back
Oh yes. There’s some FINE imagery being purveyed on this thread lately, I must say.
Ear hair is a positive adaptation to keeping one’s old ears warm in the winter. I haven’t figured out how to make it stop for the summer months, though.
Stupid ear hair.
Kettlebell tryout day (lower body)
Cleans
73’s 1x10 sets
73’s 5x2 sets
Swings (to just below shoulders)
73’s 10x1 set, 5x2 sets
Lunges
73’s 10x1 set
Zerchers (from floor)
73’s 5x2 sets (man, that was deep!)
Straight legged DL
73’s x 10
Hardest thing was the swings. Straight legged DLs were way out front, making them pretty challenging with such a light weight.

Just marry someone who will pull it all out with tweezers when the sunlight hits it …
or buy a nice big hat
After yesterday’s kettlebell session, I’m ready to come to a basically uninformed snap decision about them:
Used exclusively, They will make a weak man stronger and make a strong man weaker.
Great for a new trainee who wants home-chore strength, but won’t develop strength - particularly in the lower body - in someone who’s been doing heavy barbell training for years. Good supplementary stuff for the supporting muscles and that’s about it.
Also:
I don’t think single leg work is all that useful unless you’re rehabbing or have a mortal fear of squatting and deadlifting.

Concentrating more on moving the weight as fast as possible for all singles.
I don’t care what the rest of them say, Tony. You’re one strong mofo…
Strong as always. Just curious, how do you select the weight and number of sets when you are repping singles for speed? Is it based on a percentage of max or how you feel? Something else?
Thanks 'Dog. Always nice to hear from you.
JJ, These are not speed singles, I’m just trying to apply Monsieur meat’s advice and push the weight on the bar as fast as possible, regardless of whether it’s 135 or 245. The 245 singles aren’t going up terribly fast, but my intent is to accelerate them to lockout as much as I can. At the very least it’s made a difference in how I approach the setup for each lift - I’m getting much tighter in anticipation of the push or the pull.
I’m currently working in the 85 to 90 percent range.
Anybody home??
