I am new to 5/3/1 and pretty new to lifting, and my 1RM for the main barbell lifts are still low and not where I want them to be, and I want to build some starting strength so I thought I would try the 5/3/1 for beginners from the second edition of 5/3/1 so I could get extra exposure to the main lifts each week.
I was wondering if I could/should still use the 6 week cycles, FSL, and joker sets that are in Beyond 5/3/1 and if I should still deload after the 6 week cycles. Any responses would be helpful. Thanks.
I was also where you are couple of months ago and I decided to use the plain ol 5/3/1 with boring but big template. In 3 or 4 cycles I really improved all of my lifts and it worked like a charm. I don’t know how much your weights are but mine were embarrasing (like 50kg squat, 80-90kg deadlift and so on). I improved all of my lifts up to 50% if not more, and yesterday I pulled 260lbs off the floor for a couple of good reps like it was nothing. Just pay attention to your form before all else.
Now I’m at a decent college-level athlete and still going strong ;). Hope this helps!
Thanks for the response astrbac, I was thinking of doing the same thing just to get some extra work in with the main barbell lifts. It was between the beginners and BBB.
