5/3/1 BBB volume

Been running 5/3/1 BBB for the past 6 months and will continue to do so but my main accessory volume is starting to take a hit where it’s getting harder to reach the called for 5 sets. I already have an idea of what I’m going to do moving forward but would like to hear opinions from others.

Would you reduce # of sets or reduce weight to reach 5 sets?

Here’s my thinking, my 5/3/1 sets are not taking a hit so I’m hesitant to reduce my TM and I do not want to lower my accessory volume % lower then 70% of TM so I’m leaning towards lowering working sets. Make sense?

Current Stats ;

6’1 195

BP 1RM - 250

SQ 1RM - 315

DL 1RM - 405

I’m curious about this statement—what’s the reasoning here?

Edit: Also, I think you mean supplemental volume, not accessory volume.

Yeah my bad, I did mean supplemental. My original thought process was that 3x10 @ 70% would be more training volume than say 5x10 @ 60% but never put much thought into it I guess and did the math. Seems I’m wrong.

Guess we’ll be lowering training percentages for supplemental work.

After 6 months, it’s time to move onto a new 5/3/1 program

I’m curious your reasoning behind this? Does Jim mention that anywhere? What would be a program you’d recommend?

Yup. In 5/3/1 Forever.

Your goal determines the next program

I see. I have his book too, should have known. Guess I should spend some time flipping through it and figuring out my next move.

Thanks.

No problem dude! Worse comes to worse, pick a random one, but ideally assess your weaknesses and address them
