Good job, man. What are your goals?

I figure I lost about 10lbs of muscle total, so my goal is to put that back on - bring me up to 195-200 bodyweight at about the same bodyfat percentage (<15%) and I’d like to shoot for a 450 deadlift before I turn 46 this Fall.

Not sure what happened to my post from yesterday, but good work once again !

What are you currently deadlifting?

I pulled a FAST 295 today, so I estimate 335-365 based on recent workouts (I took a few weeks to de-load and work back up). Pulling 450 will require some real muscle gain. I’m thinking to focus on fast lifts 60-70%, lifts from pins and maybe rack lockouts, pulling from the floor only every few weeks to keep the back fresh.

I was just diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease last week (I know, I cheated!) and have been on meds four days - so I actually expect a boost in appetite and energy from working out sick since April, 2013 during which time I maintained good strength levels, I pulled 400 on trap bar DL at 195 (more bodyfat) during that time - so I think 450 is possible this year but challenging.

Definitely possible. I like Jim Wendler’s 5/3/1 program. What are you using?

Why do you need ‘muscle gain’ to lift 405? Strength is a trained skill set and many much ‘smaller’ than you can pull 405. You look like you have plenty of muscle, just get what you have stronger. Stay below 5 reps and cycle 5’s and below. Hell do the PTTP deadlift program by Pavel or 5-3-1 by wendler you will get there.

Basically 5/3/1 - I started at 20/12/10/8 though in order to do some de-loading and let achey joints heal up, so I’m feeling much fresher, after this week or next, I’ll move down to 5 reps.

Thanks for reminding me! I pulled 385 at 155 when I was 16, but sumo style and . . . and I was 16. I’m 45 and have to increase mobility and work around other limitations that have accumulated over the years. I pull conventional now.

And strength can be trained only up to a point - you train the muscle mass you have and then to get stronger, at some point you have to add more mass. You can’t see all of the muscles specific to the deadlift in the photos - I estimate that I lost ten pounds while I was sick, some of that in the hips and low back, hamstrings - so I am planing to add that back if possible anyway.

I haven’t looked at the PTTP program and will check it out, thank you for the information and support!

Great work. And to do this through Crohns is not an easy task.

Did you get surgery? I cant tell from the after picture

No surgery - just started medication, hopefully surgery won’t be needed!

Good stuff, Abx. Will be rooting for you.
